The Non-Aggression Pact
The non-aggression pact is an international treaty that is between two to more states that agrees to avoid war or armed conflict between the states. In order to reslove their disagreement they need to do it through peasceful negotiations. This pact was popular until after WWII. The Non-Aggression Pact was significant because if a state has a dissagreement with another state then they just can’t declare war and start fighting they have to try and work it out. -
Japanese Invasion of Manchuria
The Japanese Invasion of Manchuria began on September 19th, 1931. This invasion happened almost immediately after the Mukden Incident. The invasion was by the Kwantung Army of the Empire of Japan. This invasion was an challenge for the Japanese Empire to try to gain control over the whole province so they could eventually take in all of East Asia. Treaty of Versailles
The Treaty of Versailles is what ended World War I. This treaty was a peace treaty and stated that Germany accepts the responsibility of the war. Germany needed to pay money to certain countries. This led to World War II because Hitler and his people did not like the fact that they were blamed for World War I. -
Reichstag Fire
This event is seen as pivotal in the establistment of Nazi, Germany. This building was the German Parliment. When they searched the building the police found Marinus Van de Lubbe. The fire was used as evidence by the Nazis that the Communist were beginning to plot against the German Government. With the arrest of Communist the seats were empty and that's how Hitler got power. This was important because Hitler Rose to power and created WWII. -
Adolf Hitler
He was the leader of Germany and appointed chancellor in 1933. He wanted to establish a New Order of absolute German Hegemony in Europe. He Invaded Poland which was the cause of World War II. He basically started the whole war. -
Neutrality Act
The Neutrality Acts were laws that were passed by the US Congress. These ensured that the United States would not get involved in foreign conflicts. This meant the that US wouldn’t give any weapon shipments to any foreign countries or no loans. This lead to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor which brought us into World War II. -
Panay Incident
The Panay Incident was an Attack on the United States Navy Gunboat called the Panay by the Japanese. They attacked while she was anchored in the Yangtze River on December 12, 1937. The Japanese said that they did not see the American Flag on the ship and apologized and paid. This caused us to turn against the Japanese. This was significant because we didn’t help them out because of this. -
The Anschluss
Hitler made a decision for quick and total absorption of Austria into the Third Reich. The Anschluss went against many international agreements. Austria's Chancellor Kurt Schuschnigg tried helping Austria keep their independence from Germany. With the power given to Germany Wehrmacht troops had entered Austria to enforce the Anschluss. Because Hitler took over Austria this gave Germany more power and made Hitler believe that he could invade any country. -
Munich Conference
The Munich Conference was an agreement permitting Nazi Germany annexation of Czechoslovakia Sudetenland. Sudetenland were areas along the border of Czechoslovakias. Sudetenland was mainly populated by Germans. The Munich Conference was an held in Munich, Germany. The conference was held to discuss the tuture for Czechoslovakia in the demand by Adolf Hitler. The Start of WWII
The Start of WWII was on September 1, 1939 when Nazi Germany invaded Poland and France (also British Empire and Commonwealth) declared war on Germany.Many cointries were already at war with eachother but later on joined into the war when the German’s invaded the Societ Union and the bombing of Pearl Harbor. People were to scared to stand up and check on what Hitler was doing and this led to war. If Nazi Germany wouldn’t have tried to invade other countries then war wouldn’t have happened. -
The Lend-Lease Bill
The Lend-Lease was a program where the United States supplied allies with large amounts of war materials. In return we got military bases in Newfoundland, Bermuda and the British West Indies. This act ended the neutrality of the United States and was called “an Act Further to Promote Defense of the United States”. Hitler saw this and had submarines attack the US ships. This was significant because this finally us out of the Neutrality so we could help other allies out. -
Cash and Carry
The Cash and Carry replaced the Neutrality Acts of 1936. This allowed the sale of material to other countries as long as they arranged their own transportation and paid in cash right away. This held neutrality between the US and European countries. This act made sure that it didn’t give away all its supplies and rations. This was made so that the US didn’t have to go to war even though they ended up going. -
The Battle of Britain
This campaign was help to gain air superiority over the Royal Air Force(RAF). This was the first campaign to be fought only by air forces. In 1940 the Luftwaffe targeted mainly Portsmouth until they switched there attacks to RAF. The Luftwaffe attacked areas that had political significance by terror bombing.Because of the loss that Germany had trying to defeat Britain’s Air Defences this was a big turning point in the war. America First Committe
America First Committee was founded in September of 1940. This was the most powerful isolationist group in America. They did not want to enter WWII at all. There was over 800,00 members of this group and was the largeset anti war organization in American History until the attack on Pearl Harbor. -
Tripartite Pact
The Tripartite Pact was also called the Three-Power Pact, Axis Pact, and the Three way Pact. This pact was signed on September 27, 1940 in Berlin, Germany. This Pact establishes the Axis Powers of World War II. This pact was signed by Adolf Hitler (Germany), Galeazzo Ciano (Italy) and Saburo Kurusu (Japan). This gave them power during World War II.
