Magna Carta
The Magna Carta was a charter that parliament forced King John to sign giving the english people rights. Some of the beliefs from the Charter are found in the Constitution for example; trial by jury, due process, and the security clause. -
Albany Plan of Union
It was proposed by Ben Franklin to discuss problems with the colonial trade and danger of attacks from French and Native Americans. This Plan was the start of the powers within the present day Government. Including the power to raise military and naval forces, establish relationships with native americans, and regulate tax and trade -
Boston Massacre
What started off as a snowball fight because of the growing tensions between the colonists and the British, resulted in British Soilders murdering five colonists. This event was the first of many that would later lead to the Colonist's revolt against English control. -
Boston Tea Party
Five colonists boarded three ships in Boston Harbor, disguised as Native Americans, and dumped 90,000 pounds of tea into the ocean to protest the British control of tea and heavy taxes. This was the first time the Colonist's had openly opposed the British and The Tea Party is still alive today. "No Taxation without Representation." -
First Continental Congress
The purpose of the First Continental Congress was for delegates from the 13 colonies to meet and state they refused to trade until all taxes have been revoked. The British ignored claims which was a major push towards the Revolutionary war. -
Second Continental Congress
The Second Continental Congress met after the Revolutionary War had begun, during their meetings they decided to assign George Washington commander-in-cheif of the Continental Army. This Second Continental Congress was the starting process of a stronger Central Government. -
Articles of Confederation
The Articles of Confederation was the first constitution of the American Government in order to regulate military actions and foreign trade. The weakness of the Articles eventually led to the creation of the Constitution. -
Shays Rebellion
The rebellion was a direct result of poor farmers loosing their lands and being put in jail because of the large debts owed by the government. This Rebellion was the last battle of the Revolution. It was launched on the principles that the American Government was born. "No taxation without representation"
