The West
During the 1850s the western region was explored. It was very good to settle down because the land was very fertile and there was much space to settle down. -
Alaska
In 1867 Amercia bought Alaska for 7 billion Dollar from Russia. They wanted to have it, because now the had the land around Canada, they wnated Canadas land to and could invade them so better. -
Rupertsland Act
In 1868 the Hudson Bay Company selled Rupertsland to Canada, so the land of Canada got bigger and could protect themself better. -
The Metis
In 1869-70 the Metis wanted very much. They wanted to be their own little province with their own law and status. -
Manitoba Act
In 1870 the Manitoba Act was signed. The Metis got their own province, which was called now Manitoba. They had their own land and their own policy. -
North-West Territories
The Rest of Rupertsland, which was not Manitoba, was called North-West Territories and it was governed by the lieutnant governor from Manitoba, but in 1876 they got their own lieutnant. -
Indian Act
In 1876 the Indian Act was signed and Indian people got their rights, what they could do then and what not, it was all in this contract. -
Louis Riel Death
On November 16th Louis Riel was hanged, because he started a rebellion again. The first time he was sent into exil, but this time he got hanged. -
The 1885 Rebellion
In 1885 the Metis rebelled again, because in the province they got they thought they loose their rights and they asked if Louis Riel could help them again to get what they want.
