Seperation
Oprah's mother, Vernita, leaves MS and moves to Milwaulkee, Wisconsin. Oprah is left in MS with her grandmother. -
School
Oprah begins school. Her grandmother taught her how to read, so she was bumped up to the first grade from kindergarten. -
Headed North
Oprah's mother gets settled in Milwaulkee, and wants Oprah to join her. She moves from her grandmother's farm in MS and moves in with her mother. -
New Baby
Oprah has a new baby sister named Patricia. Patricia was light skin and was favored more. -
New Home
Oprah moves in with her father, Vernon, in Nashville TN. Her father was strict and made her read all the time unlike her mother. -
Pregnancy
at age 14 oprah becomes pregnant. Stress made her go into premature labor and her baby died two weeks earlier -
College
Oprah recieves a year scholarship to attend Tennessee State. -
NEWS
Oprah starts a new job as a news anchor on WtFV-TV in Nashville. -
Chicago
Fall of 1984 Oprah moves to Chicago for a job oppertunity. She started hosting a morning talk show called A.M. Chicago. -
Oprah Show
The A.M. Chicago show was now called The Oprah Winfry Show. this was the birth of her show. -
Movies
Quincy Jones casted Oprah in his movie production in the Color Purple. She stared as Sophia. -
Production Company
Oprah signs a big deal with King World to broadcast The Oprah Winfrey Show. She starts her own production company, Harpo. -
Oscars
Oprah was nominated for her first Academy Award, for her role as Sophia in the Color Purple. She did not win it though. -
Emmy Award
Oprah recieves her first Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Show Host. -
