The first telephone was created by Alexander Graham Bell in 1876. The telephone converts the human voice into electrical impulses then back to a tone that sounds like the original voice. Human speech could be transmitted over a wire. -

With the first commercial telephone, you would talk and listen through the same opening. The thumper would tap the diaphram on the phone to make a tapping sound. This would signal an incoming call. -
