The capital of the Us is moved.
The capital was moved because basically to make the south happy. The south felt that if the capital of the us was all they way up there north, the south would be ignored. So as a way to keep the south in the US, they moved it away. -
Lousiana Purchase*
This terriory was purchased from france for 15 million. This actually doubled the Us in size. Thomas Jefferson bought it and it streches from the mississippi river to the Rocky Mountains between the Gulf of Mexico and the Canadian border. :D -
Marbury v. Madison*
Marbury had been commissioned justice of the peace in the District of Columbia, and when the new administration did not deliver the commission, Marbury sued James Madison who was jefferson's secretary of state. :O -
War of 1812
Between U.S and Great Britain, and it was caused over land ompressment and neutral trade. It was fought from June until Spring in the same year. The fighting of the war occurred along the Canadian border, in the Chesapeake Bay region, and along the Gulf of Mexico, although extensive action also took place at sea. -
Andrew Jackson was elected.*
Hero of the war of 1812; 1st president from the west; represented the common man. :) He was the 7th president of the united states. He died due to a logging accident. -
Underground Railroad
the underground railroad was a vast network of people who helped fugitive slaves escape to the North and to Canada. It was run by many individuals. mostly whites. -
Gold Rush*
Gold was discovered in california and it caused a great impact on american life. Suddenly everyone, (includes people out of america) traveled to california in search of gold. -
Civil War starts*
the civil war started due to slavery, economy, and states rights. The north did not believe in slavery, but the south did. It ended in 1865. It officially began when the south or the fired on fort sumter. -
Emancipation Proclamation issued.*
The emancipation proclamation was a document signed by Abraham Lincoln freeing the slaves in "rebellious" states. The Proclamation included clauses that addressed rebellion and its elimination. -
Civil War ended.*
With the end of the civil war, slaves were free. :) Robert E. Lee surrendered to Ulysses S. Grant the at Appomattox Court House, Virginia. -
Light bulb invented.*
Thomas Edison discovered that a carbon filament in an oxygen-free bulb glowed but did not burn up for 40 hours. Edison eventually produced a bulb that could glow for over 1500 hours. & thus we have light! :D -
