*The Move
The U.S capital moved to Washington D.C from Philadelphia. The U.S capital was and is one of the most important buildings in the world! The House of Representatives have met there for over two centuries. Starting from 1793, this building has been built, burnt, rebuilt, extended, and restored. Today, this building stands as our government. -
*The Purchase
The Louisiana Purchase was purchased from France by a treaty made in April 30, 1803. The Louisiana Purchase was land that extended more than two million square kilometers from the Mississippi River to the Rocky Mountains.$11,250,00 was to be paid directly. This included the assumption of the U.S of French debts, and the $15 million. -
The Banning of Importing Slaves
On January 1st of 1808, the importing of slaves was banned. First in 1803, Denmark abolish slavery imports. Soon after, so did Great Britain in 1807, and the United States. These states were the first to ban the import of slavery. -
*The War of 1812
The war of 1812 was fought between the United States and Great Britain from June 1812 till the spring of 1815 even though the peace treaty ending the war was signed in Europe on December 1814. The Americans were not ready for war and their hopes to take over Canada fell drastically in the campaigns of 1812 and 1813. -
*Texas and The Founder
Stephen F. Austin founds the colony of Texas. Stephen F. Austin was born in Virginia, but was raised in southeaster Missouri. It was said the Stephen was the founder of the Anglo-Americans. In 1813, he was elected the territorial Legislature of Missouri and was reelected for the same position until 1819 in which he moved to Arkansas. -
Indian Territory Founded
The area west of the Mississippi River except Missouri and Louisiana was known as the Arkansas Territory. The Arkansas Territory was never really an organized territory. Soon it became the state of Oklahoma. Many Indian tribes were forced to this place. Soon this land was known as the Indian County or the Indian Territory. -
*Texas Revolution
Santa Anna led an army across the Rio Grande where he unexpectedly fought at the Alamo. The Texans declared their independence on March 2 1836. Sam Houston led a successful retreat, but soldiers got attacked in late March by Santa Anna and his army. Santa Anna was soon captured and taken to prison thanks to Sam Houston's quick thinking at San Jacinto. -
The Trail of Tears
As part of Andrew Jackson's Indian Removal policy, the Cherokee tribe was forced out of their homes in the east land of the Mississippi River. They were to migrate to what is now the state of Oklahoma. -
The Gold Rush
A discovery made in the American River would change many people's lives.
Men from all over the world came to dug up gold. Nations even sent their best hardworking workers to dig up the gold. People's lives changes because of this event. -
The Speed of Light
Leon Foucault, a physicist, used a similar method that Fizeau used. He shone a light to a rotating mirror. Then it bounced off a remote fixed mirror then went back to the first mirror. Since the mirror was rotating, the light from the rotating mirror bounced back at an angle slightly different from the angle it hit a while ago. By measuring the angle, it was possible to find the speed of light. -
*Emancipation Proclomation
President Abraham Lincoln made the Emancipation Proclamation to abolish slavery. He read this to his cabinet on July 22, 1862. After Lincoln made some changes and adjustments, the final copy was made and published on January 1, 1863. -
Lincoln's Assassination
John Wilkes Boothe was an actor who performed in many plays. President Lincoln so happened to represent everything that Boothe had hated, and he wanted revenge. On Friday April 14, 1865, Boothe found out that President Lincoln was going to attend the Ford's Theater. Boothe went into the State box where Lincoln was at and shot him in the head.
