9/11 was a terrorist attack on the Twin Towers and Pentagon. 4 airplanes were hijacked and crashed. Two of them hit the twin towers, one hit the Pentagon, and the other crashed in a field but was most likely going to the White House. -

During this time same-sex marriages were becoming more normalized and states could decide if they wanted them to be legal. A few states made them legal but received backlash from states that did not want it to be legal.
