Derek Jeter breaks ankle
In game one of the 2012 ALCS, shortstop Derek Jeter suffered a fractured left ankle. The injury required surgery, and would keep Jeter out for the remainder of the postseason.

Alex Rodriguez hip surgery
The Yankees released a statement announcing that the third baseman discovered the tear in his labrum after a routine checkup with his doctor. The injury would require surgery, and keep Rodriguez out for a 4 to 6 month recovery period.

Phil Hughes shut down
Starting pitcher Phil Hughes was injured two days prior to an MRI revealing a bulging disc on his back. Hughes would be shut down, and start the season on the disabled list.

Curtis Granderson breaks arm
In his first plate appearance of the spring, the center fielder was hit by a pitch on his right arm. X-rays revealed a fracture in his forearm that would cost Granderson a spot on the opening day roster, and at least a 10 week recovery. Granderson is still rehabbing.

Mark Teixeira wrist injury
Mark Teixeira is forced to pull out of the World Baseball Classic after suffering a right wrist injury during Team USA workouts. The initial diagnosis was a two-week rest period, but tests later revealed a torn tendon sheath. The recovery timetable was set at 8-10 weeks. Teixeira is still on the mend.

After failing to recover in time for the start of the season, Jeter was doing more in rehab in Tampa. The All-Star shut down his workouts and had a checkup with his doctor. Tests revealed a new crack in the ankle in the area of the original fracture. Yankees General Manager Brain Cashman announced that Jeter would now be out until after the All-Star break.

Francisco Cervelli breaks hand
In the first inning, Francisco Cervelli took a foul ball off his throwing hand. He was removed from the game. X-rays revealed a break in the hand that would require surgery the next day. The catcher will miss apporximately six weeks.

Ivan Nova elbow pain
Daily NewsOn the same night, starting pitcher Ivan Nova was removed from the game with an apparent elbow injury. It was diagnosed as a triceps injury, and the righty was placed on the disabled list the next day. -
Kevin Youkilis back injury
Kevin Youkilis, the man supposed to fill in for the injured Rodriguez and Teixeira, found himself on the disabled list as well. Youkilis injured his back roughly a week earlier, but was diagnosed with a lumbar spine sprain, and was added to the list of the walking wounded.

Joba Chamberlain strains oblique
Reliever Joba Chamberlain strained his oblique warming up in the bullpen two days earlier. After tests revealed the oblique strain, Chamberlain was placed on the disabled list, making him the tenth Yankee to find himself there.
