USB 2.0 Flash Drive
Created by Dov Moran and his company M-Systems. These drives were introduced and used for data storage and to back up and transfer files between devices. They were faster and had more storage space than earlier storage media. They also couldn't be scratched like previous storage discs and wouldn't lose it's contents if a magnet were to stick to it unlike floppy disks. -
1 TB Hard Disk Drive
Hitachi Global Storage Technologies released the first 1 TB hard disk drive (HDD). The world's first HDD had a storage capacity of about 3.75 MB. The Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000 had a greater storage capacity by 300,000 and was exponentially smaller. -
Apple iPhone
Apple launches the iPhone. It was the first combination of a web browser, music player and cellphone. It introduced the ability to download new functionality using "apps" from the online Apple store. The iPhone also had new built-in GPS navigation, high-definition camera, texting, calendar, voice dictation and weather reports which was like having a computer in your pocket. -
MacBook Air
Apple introduced a light, thin laptop with high-capacity battery. The MacBook Air incorporated many of the technologies associated with Apple's line of MacBook laptops. This included wifi capabilities and a camera. To reduce it's size the solid-state disk replaced the traditional hard drive. -
Roadrunner Supercomputer
IBM's Roadrunner co-created by Jack Dongarra is completed and is the first computer to reach performance of 1 petaflop (one thousand trillion floating point operations per second). It was used to analyze financial data and render 3D medical images in real time.
