  • The Beginning

    The Beginning
    NTU establishes a free-standing School of Communication Studies and appoints Prof Eddie C.Y. Kuo, then head of the Mass Communication department at National University of Singapore, as the founding dean.
  • Pioneer Class

    Pioneer Class
    The school enrolls its first class of 96 undergraduates and master's degree students. This marked a significant start, with a vision to be the premier school of communication and information in Asia with international eminence.
  • In Honour of the late Dr. Wee Kim Wee

    In Honour of the late Dr. Wee Kim Wee
    The school enrolls its first PhD student; and a $4.5 million endowed professorship is established in honour of former journalist and Singapore's former president, Dr Wee Kim Wee. The late Dr. Wee Kim Wee was President of the Republic of Singapore between 1985 and 1993. Before that, he was High Commissioner to Malaysia, and Ambassador to Japan and the Republic of Korea.

    The Opening of TCS campus
    The School moves into a new $22.6 million building at the western edge of NTU's Yunnan Garden Campus. The gleaming, four-storey facility houses the latest in print, audio/video, photo and multimedia technology, in hope of providing the school with premier facilities and a conducive environment for the students.
  • Pioneer Class Convocation

    Pioneer Class Convocation
    As part of its service to the media industry, the school graduates the first class of communication professionals enrolled in Master of Mass Communication degree programme. In addition, the faculty celebrates the graduation of the first class of undergraduate students who completed the school's four-year honours degree curriculum.
  • Technology Revamp

    Technology Revamp
    The school graduates its first PhD candidate, and a $1.5 million endowed professorship is established by the Shaw Foundation to focus on new technologies and to raise the school’s profile as Asia’s premier Communications school.
  • Campus Expansion

    Campus Expansion
    Assoc Prof Ang Peng Hwa is appointed as the next Dean of the School. A fifth floor is added to the School as it expands its programmes, to accommodate the increasing number of students and curriculums.
  • Singapore Internet Research Centre

    Singapore Internet Research Centre
    The School is officially named as the The Comm School and establishes the Singapore Internet Research Centre. More than $27 million is raised for the The Wee Kim Wee Legacy Fund, giving our nation a chance to keep alive the wonderful qualities of Wee Kim Wee. Future generations will continue to be shaped by the indelible influence of Wee Kim Wee.
  • Assoc. Prof. Benjamin Detenber

    Assoc. Prof. Benjamin Detenber
    Assoc Prof Benjamin Detenber is appointed as the next Chair of the School, effective from 8 September 2008. He hopes to broaden the school’s reach, and raise the profile of the media on campus, embraced sustainability, and promoted collaboration across academic disciplines and administrative units.
  • Legacy and Beyond

    Legacy and Beyond
    The Comm School celebrates its 20th Anniversary in May 2012 with a gala dinner at the Fairmont Hotel. Now, 20 years on, TCS continues to innovate and offers more than 10 academic qualifications, many of which are taught using the latest technologies.
