    Germany invades Poland causing Britian and France to declare war on Germany

    On the 1st of September 1939, Germany decided to invade Poland using a new tactic call Blitzkrieg. Blitzkrieg which is commonly known as the “lightning war “is an innovative military tactic that uses light tanks units to support planes and infantry to approach the enemy by surprise. This surprise invasion caused Britain and France to declare war on Germany. However, during WWII, Germany was extremely powerful and blitzkrieg played a significant role in contributing to their success.

    France surrender to Germany
    On the 10th of May 1940, The Nazi and Italian Army used blitzkrieg to attack France, Belgium and Netherlands. Unfortunately, the allies and the French defenders were force backward and to abandon Dunkirk. After Germany successfully gain power over Dunkirk, the German army headed southwards. Soon after the French also fail to defend Paris, allowing the German army to overtake its Capital. On the 22nd of June 1940, an Armistice is signed allowing Germany to owned 2/3 of France.

    The battle of Britain was a struggle between the German Luftwaffe and the royal air force from the 1st of July to September. It was a German plan to win air superiority over Southern Britain and the English Channel by destroying the British air force and aircraft industry. However, the battle of Britain was a significant turning point of World War II because Germany’s Luftwaffe failed gained air superiority over the Royal Air force.

    USA declares war on the Axis power

    On the 7th of December, the Imperial Japanese Navy held a surprise military attack against the United States naval base at Pearl Harbour. During WW2, many American was strongly against America‘s involvement in WW II. However, this attack have shifted the public views and was a crucial event of the war as it led the United States’ entry into World War 2.

    Fall of British naval base in Singapore to the Japanese
    The battle of Singapore also known as ‘the fall of Singapore ‘began during 1942, when the empire of japan decided to invade Britain’s stronghold of Singapore. However, due to Singapore’s poor military defence, the British commander surrendered the British army to a Japanese’s force on the 15th of February causing Singapore’s defenders and 15000 Australian to become the prisoners of war.

    Japaneses bomb Darwin
    The bombing of Darwin took place on the 9th of February. This attack was vital to the Japanese as it was an attempt to prevent the Australia forces from sending aid to Timor and Java. As a result, Australia and its allies lost 77 aircraft and several ships and 300-400 military personnel and civilian were injured.

    Allies enter Berlin and The end of war in Europe

    By the year 1945, the Allies regain initiative and have successfully crossed Germany’s border and began systematically to push the Germans back toward Berlin. On 30th April 1945, the soviet troops have captured the Reichstag causing Hitler to commit suicide due to his failure. Soon after, Germany agreed to sign an unconditional surrender of its armed force. Thus, marking the end of World War II in Europe.

    The atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and Japan unconditional surrender

    During the final stages of WW2, the Japanese refused to accept the allies demand for an unconditional surrender, causing the pacific war to continue. As a result, two atomic bomb were dropped by the United States on the city of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945. The two bombing killed at least 105, 00-120,000 people causing Japan to agree to the allies’ demand for an unconditional surrender on the 14th of August 1945
