    Columbus discovers the New World

    Christopher Columbus believed that he could sail west to reach Asia, so he persuaded Queen Isabella of Spain to sponsor him. IN October 1492 he reached the Americas, believing it was Asia.

    King Henry VIII's Wives

    King Henry had a total of eight wives throughout his lifetime and three kids. He created the Church of England to get a divorce with his first and fourth wife. His second and fifth wife where beheaded, his third wife died, and his sixth wife out lived him. King Henry divorced and beheded his wives because they wouldn't produce a male heir.

    Martin Luther nails the 95 Thesis on the door of the church at Wittenburg. This is the start of the Protestant Reformation
  • Defeat of the Spanish Armada

    Elizabeth 1 lead Great Britain against the Spanish Armada. The English won this battle leaving them to have more power.
  • Creation of the Edict of Nantes

    The Edict of Nantes was issued to grant religious freedom to the French Protestants. It was later revoked by Louis XIV.

    The English Civil War was a series of armed conflicts and political arguments between King Charles I, the Cavaliers, and Parliament, the round heads. It ended on September 3, 1651 with the execution of Charles I.

    Johann Sebastian Bach

    Born and raised in Germany, Bach is often considered one of the world's most famous baroque composer. Famous for his use of baroque music, a style of dramatic music emphasizing the mind and emotions. He wrote music for the Lutheran Church and other musicians.
  • Louis XIV revokes the Edict of Nantes

    Louis XIV revoked the Edict of Nantes because Huguenots wouldn't convert to Catholicism and banned protestant worship. Because of this 200,000 Huguenots fled France.

    When James Ii decided to be an absolute King and claimed that didn't have to listen to Parliament. Because of this Parliament invited Mary of Orange and her husband William to be rulers, it's called a glorious revolution because there was no blood shed.

    Founders of the United States, influenced by ideas of the Enlightenment, created a Declaration of Independence, written by Thomas Jefferson, and battled British forces for liberty. In the end, the United States won and where declared a independent country with a democracy.

    French Revolution

    When majority of the French population, the third estate, rose up against the first and second estate because of dept problems and unfair votes. It started with the storming of the Bastille, went to the Reign of Terror, and ended with Napoleon's coup d'etate. With the French Revolution came the invention of the guillotine, which was an efficient and more humane of killing.

    Rule Of Napoleon

    With a successful coup d'etate, Napoleon Bonaparte took control of France after the French Revolution. He became the one of the greatest military leaders in history and conquered almost all of England. However, when he failed to counquer Russia because of the scorched-earth policy and he didn't have enough supplies for the winter. In the end Napoleon was exiled to Elba, came back during the hundred days, then was exiled again to St. Helena.

    The Congress of Vienna was a meeting of the major European powers to re-establish a balance of power in Europe, for the future, after the defeat of Napoleon. The Congress issued a balance of power, restored monarchies, and paid back nations that suffered most due to Napoleon.
  • Matthew Perry opens Japan to trade

    Matthew Perry was sent to Japan with heavily armed, steam powered warships in 1853. He negotiated a deal with the Japanese the safety of U.S. sailors through Japan and trade with Japan.
