    The French's leader, Napoleon needed money to be able to fight in European wars. Thomas Jefferson offered $15,000,000 for this piece of land. It doubled the size of our country. No one knew what was there, so Lewis and Clark were ordered to explore the land.
  • Madison Elected President

    Madison Elected President
    He was the fourth President. He served for two terms. He was known as the Father of the Constitution.
  • The War of 1812

    The War of 1812
    It was caused by the British's impressment. The Americans were upset about that. It was between the US and Britain.
  • The White House Burnt Down

    The British burnt down the White House. This happened during the War of 1812. James Madison was President during this time.
  • The Missouri Compromise

    No one could decide if Missouri should be a free, or slave state. They got Maine to balance it out. Missouri was a slave state. Maine was a free state.

    Monroe didn't want any interference with the Western Hemisphere. He made this very clear. He said this in his 1823 address to Congress.
  • Andrew Jackson's election

    This was the first election that the right to vote was given to more citizens. Most of the new voters supported Andrew Jackson. He was the seventh president.
