19th Century Australian Significant Events

  • Majesty forbids cruelty against the natives of Australia

    On June 30th 1802, the current ruler of New Holland forbids any act of cruelty to any aborigines in the area and not to violently resolve and repair any damage done by them but instead to respond in a civilized manner towards them.

    The second settlement established in Van Dieman's Land (Tasmaina)
  • The Founding of Hobart

    In 1804 Sullivans Cove today called Hobart a place in Van Dieman's Land (Tasmaina) was founded by the Brittish
  • Crossing of the Blue Mountains

    Colonists, assisted by aboriginal people, cross the Blue Mountains and create new needed hostilities as they pass through the aboriginal land
  • The Opening of Australia's first bank

    In 1817, Australia's first official bank called the Bank of New South Wales was opened.
  • Blue Mountains stations

    In 1820, colonists spread out west of the Blue Mountains and establishes stations
  • The official name change

    The British government approved the name change from "New Holland" to "Australia".
  • The British claims Australia

    The whole of Australia is claimed as British territory.
  • Perth is born

    The settlement of Perth is founded.
  • The new Western Australia

    In 1832, the Swan River colony officially changes it's name to Western Australia.

    Sheep farming and agriculture started in New Holland.
