  • Airtraffic contollers strike

    The PACTO union declared a strike because they wanted better working conditions, better pay, and a 32 hour workweek. PACTO also wanted to b included in the civil service that had haunted them for decades.
  • Equal Acess Act

    This United States federal law passed in 1984 to compel federally-funded secondary schools to provide extracurricular clubs. It helped ensure the students the right to conduct Biblestudy programs during lunch and after school.
  • Iran-Contra Scandal

    This scandal began in August of !985 was the facilitated selling of arms to Iran. U.S. officials hoped that since they were selling them weapons, that they would release U.S. hostages and we would have enough money to fund the Nicaraguan Contras.
  • Gramm-Rudman-Hollings Act

    This act was considered the first binding constraint imposed on federal spending, and its spending caps had become the part of every U.S. budget. This act produced its first balanced federal budget in more than 25 years.
  • Westside Community School District v. Mergens

    This case was decided in June of 1990. The Westside School District would not allow a group of students to form a Christian Bible Study Club at thier school since they wouldn't allow a staff member to sponsor it. In an 8-1 court decision the Supreme Court held that the group can hold their meeting at their school.

    A U.S. Court case in wich all nine Justices of the Supreme Court voted to strike down anti-idecency provisions of the Communications Deceny Act.
  • Bush v. Gore

    The Supreme Court case that resolved the 2000 presidential election in favor of George W. Bush.
  • Mitchell v. Helms

    Decision by the Supreme Court that ruled it was permissible for loans to be made to religous schools under Chapter 2 of the Education Consolidation and Improvement Act of 1981
