  • Sandra O'Conner

    Sandra O'Conner
    (Social Justice) Fufilling his promise to have a women in the supreme court during his presidency, on September 21, 1981 Sandra O'Conner was elected to the Supreme Court. With a background in politics and a degree from Stamford, some called Sandra the most influencial woman in the US. This was an important step for women equality because it opened the door for more women to get important goverment jobs which allowed them to be able to represent women in the making of laws.
  • The Apple Lisa

    The Apple Lisa
    (Technology) Steve Jobs, a co-founder of Apple computers manged the project of creating the Apple Lisa, which was released in January 1983. This computer was the first PC to use a GUI (Graphical User Interface), and cost a whopping $9,995. With this high price tag its not surprise that only 10,000 were ever sold before the product was discontinued.
  • US invade Grenada

    US invade Grenada
    (military) Earlier that year, Bernard Coard, a communist had taken control of Grenada, causing protests and lots of violence. This prompted Ronald Reagean to order U.S military to invade Grenada in order to keep the U.S citezens there safe from the communist goverment and the violence. By the end of the invasion, nearly 6,000 troops had been sent into Grenada, and 20 of them were killed. Nonetheless it was considered a victory by Reagean.
  • Challenger Explodes

    Challenger Explodes
    (My Choice) 73 seconds after it had taken off, the US orbiter Challenger exploded midair causing all seven on board to perish. This devastating disaster was caused by a malfunction in the technology because of the cold weather. This caused NASA to temporarily stop all future missions.
  • Iran-Contra Scandal

    Iran-Contra Scandal
    (political scandal) During Reagens presidency, the sandanistas, a comuunist group, took over Nicaragua. This gets Reagen worried, so the CIA trains the contra, a rebellion group in Nicaragua. However, the CIA needs funding to train the contras, so Ronald Reagen, without congresses approval, starts selling weapons to Iran, the US enemy, to get money. This big scandal broke in November of 1986, and angered alot of people that this was done behind their backs.

  • Fall of Berlin Wall

    Fall of Berlin Wall
    (Cold War) On the eve of November 9, 1989, East German goverment official Gunter Schabowski announced that all border checkpoint were open to everyone to come and go as they pleased. Following this announcement, many people gathered along both sides of the wall with tools and began knocking down the wall, as well as celebrating.
  • Hubble Telescope Launch

    Hubble Telescope Launch
    (Technology) One of NASA's most succsesful mission, the Hubble Telescope, was launched in April 1990. This telescope orbits the earth and allows us to solve many mysteries surrounding the atmosphere.
  • Gulf War

    Gulf War
    (Military) On August 2nd, 1990 Iraq invaded Kuwait casuing national uproar. The U.S. had a deal with Kuwait, if Kuwait gives us oil, we will protect them. U.S. went into Kuwait to protect them, and also urged other nations to send in their troops.
  • LA Riots

    LA Riots
    (Social Justice) When a video surfaced of white police officers beating an immobile Rodney King, the black community finally thought they could put an end to the racial violence that police used against them. However, when the police officers went to court and got aqquited, many people were very angry, thus the L.A. Riots started. Fueled by anger at the court, people started rioting through LA, breaking stuff, lighting stuff on fire, and overall causing billions of dollars worth of damages.
  • Operation Restore Hope

    Operation Restore Hope
    (Military) With a humanitarian crisis in Somalia and a civil war with Mogadishu, the U.S. came to the aid of Somalia. After dropping leaflets the day before, on December 9, 1992 the US invaded Mogadishu hoping to bring an end to the civil war. They helped fight Mogadishu as well as protect the citezens of Somalia and provide humanitarian relief. The operation was considered a sucsess because many lives were saved from all the humanitatian aid recieved.
  • Backstreet Boys

    Backstreet Boys
    (My Choice) In January of 1993 the iconic boy band, the Backstreet Boys, was formed. This group of popstars include A. J. McLean, Howie Dorough, Nick Carter, Kevin Richardson, and Brian Littrell. They started small, performing at local venues until a label saw them, and sighned them. Their first song "We've Got It Goin' On" was a sucsess in Europe which led to a summer tour in Europe. Following the tour things took off for them worldwide, and they have been performing ever since.
  • World Trade Center Bombing

    World Trade Center Bombing
    (My Choice) With hopes to bring the building down, Al Quaida drove a truck into the garage of the world trade center and denoted a bomb inside. It only claimed a few lives and caused minimal damage, so it wasnt considered a succsessful attack and the US barely spent any time investigating. Perhaps they should have because less than ten years later Al Quaida brought both buildings down.
  • Monica Seles stabbing

    Monica Seles stabbing
    (Sports) Monica Seles was a tennis superstar, winning eight grand slam titles before she was twenty, as well as being the year-end World No. 1 in 1991 and 1992. But on April 30, 1933 she was stabbed in the back on the court with a 9-inch-long knife. She was stabbed by Günter Parche, an obsessed fan, who was later found to be mentally ill. Seles didn't return to tennis untill two year later, and officially retired in 2005.
  • OJ Simpson Murder Trial

    OJ Simpson Murder Trial
    (Social Justice) OJ Simpsons lawyers knew racsism was still a big issue in America, so they used the race card in order to get OJ Simpson aqquited for the gruesome murder of his ex-wife and her male friend. By having an all balck jury and accusing the prosecuter of being a racsist and making up evidence becuase OJ was black, the jury aqquited him. Perhaps the possibly guilty Simpson was set free by the jury to prevent another innocent black man being jailed becuase of his race.
  • Bill Clinton affair

    Bill Clinton affair
    (Political Scandal) 21 year old Monica Lewinsky became an intern at the White House in June of 1995, nobody expected that Clinton and her would have an affair 6 months later. A few years later, speculations begin about the affair. Clinton denies the allegations, publicly stating in court, "I did not have sexual relations with that women, Monica Lewinsky." Finally, on August 17, 1998 Clinton admits to the affair on national TV. He then resighnes from office before he can get impeached.
