  • Mt. Saint Helen's eruption

    This eruption caused the largest landslide ever recorded. Throughout the year there were a lot of small earthquakes, and venting steam which indicated that magma was rising. Fifty-seven people where killed because of the eruption.
  • Ronald Reagan Assassination attempt

    President Ronald Reagan was leaving the Hilton Hotel in Washington D.C when John Hinkley Jr. fired his gun at him and his security. He was struck by a bullet that ricocheted off of a limo, and it hit him under his left armpit.
  • First woman Supreme Court Justice

    In 1981 President Ronald Reagan nominated Sandra Day O'Connor to fill the vacant spot on the Supreme Court. The senate unanimously voted her in, and as a result she became the first woman to serve as Supreme Court Justice.
  • Challenger Crash

    Shortly after launching from Cape Canaveral, Florida the space shuttle, the Challenger, exploded. The explosion killed five people.
  • Fall of the Berlin Wall

    After years of the Berlin Wall separating the communist East Germany, and West Germany. The fall of the wall symbolized the end of the Cold War and the fall of the Soviet Union.
  • Oklahoma City Bombing

    An ex-army soldier and security guard parked a car by the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. Inside the car was home made bomb, and at 9:02 am the bomb went off killing 168 people.
  • Columbine Massacre

    On April 4, 1999 at Columbine High School two students, Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris, entered the building in trench coats and went on a shooting spree killing 13 people and wounding 20. This, at the time, was considered the worst school shooting in American history and it sparked many debates about gun control.
  • 9/11 Terrorist Attacks

    This was terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in NY, it was orchestrated by al Qaeda. Two planes hit the World Trade Center, and another hit the pentagon. These attacks killed almost 3,000 people.
