    Mark Edwin Chapman shot John Lennon outside of the building where he lived. John Lennon was pronounced dead when he arrived at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center. People mentioned that nobody could have survived the types of injuries he got.
  • Reagan Assassination Atempt

    Reagan Assassination Atempt
    John Hinckley Jr. opened fire on the U.S president Ronald Reagan. This occured right outside of the Washington Hilton hotel. Ronald Reagan and three others were injured in this assassination attempt. Ronald Reagan was hit one time with a bullet that punctured his lung.

    President Ronald Reagan nominated Sandra Day O'Connor as the first woman on the U.S Supreme Court. On September 25, 1981 Sandra Day O'Conner officially took her seat as the first woman on the U.S Supreme Court.

    For the first time people were able to go to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington on November 10, 1982. There is a spot in the memorial where all the names of the service members killed during the war between Vietnam and Southeast Asia are located.

    Sally Ride first American woman in space
    Sally Kristen Ride was an astronaut and a physicist. At the age of 32 she joined NASA. By 1983 she was the first American woman to low Earth orbit.
  • Korean Air Lines Flight 007

    Korean Air Lines Flight 007
    On September 1, 1983 Major Gennadi Osipovich was the pilot of the Koreon Air Line Flight 007 which was shot down. The airplane was shot down by Soviet interceptor Su-15. The airplane was shot down over the sea of Japan. Everybody on the airplane was killed - 269 passengers - including the crew aboard. United States Congress Lawrence McDonald was also a passenger at the moment and was also killed.

    Discovery of the Titanic Shipwreck
    The Titanic sunk in 1912 and it took 73 years for its wreckage to be found. The Titanic was found over two miles below the water, the used a submersible called Argo. Thanks to finally finding the Titanic now it is a whole different story, it has a whole new meaning and gave many new wishes to ocean exploration.

    Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster
    On January 28, 1986 the Space Shuttle Challenger launched from the Kennedy space Center at Cape Canaveral in Florida. The shuttle exploded 73 seconds after it took off. All seven members that were in the shuttle at the time of the explosion died.

    Iran Air Flight 655
    Iran Air Flight 655 was shot down by USS Vincennes. This occured on the Bandar Abbas-Dubai rout. There was 290 innocent people on the airplane. There was 66 children and 38 non Iranian people on that airplane at the moment. Everybody in the airplane died.

    Students Massacred in China's Tiananmen Square
    Students started a protest for democracy in Beijing, China in 1989. The Chinese government sent troops and tanks to the Tiananmen Square and the student protestors were massacred. From 250 to 7,000 people died.
