    The Montgomery bus boycott was when African Americans refused to ride the bus in Montgomery, Alabama. To protest segregated seating.The boycott took place from December 5, 1955, to December 20, 1956, Rosa parks was arrested for protesting and not giving up her seat to a white person.
  • Emergence of the little rock nine

    The little rock nine were a group a of nine black students enrolled in a formerly all white school in little rock September 4, 1957, the first day of classes at Central High, Governor Orval Fabus called in the Arkansas National Guard to block the Black students’ entry into the high school a month or 2 later the president sent people to escort the students into the school.
  • Brown v. Board of Education March on Washington

    On April 18 1959 26000 high school and college students went on a protest to demand the implementation of the 1954 Brown v. Board Supreme Court decision. Petition for Integrated Schools.

    The year 1967 was designated the “Summer of Love” when somewhere between 75,000 and 100,000 youth flooded 25 blocks in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury district. Beforehand, the neighborhood was home to a small community of “hip” residents interested in art, music, theatre, and literature.
  • MLK assassination

    On April 4 1968 MLK was assassinated while standing on his second floor motel. Kings assassination led to lots of racial violence resulting in 40 deaths.
  • Bobby Hutton assassination

    April 6 1968, 17-year-old Bobby Hutton, the very first recruit to Oakland's Black Panther Party, was shot multiple times after he'd surrendered to the police. This outraged the Black Panthers and led to more violence.
  • James Brown’s Say it Loud, I’m Black and I am Proud release

    As the title suggests, this song is about black pride. Brown was a leader in the black community, and encouraged his people to stand up for their rights. The '60s was a tumultuous time for race relations in America, and this song became an anthem for the black power movement.
