  • Warsaw Treaty

    Warsaw Pact was create between Poland, the Soviet Union, and other Eastern Bloc socialist republics of Central and Eastern Europe. Created During the Cold War as a counter political power balance to NATO. Basically, the socialists allied political power.
  • Emmett Till Murder

    Lynched at age 14 after being accused of offending a white women in the grocery store. After this incident, relatives of the women in question kidnapped Emmett, beat him, shot him, and tried to bury him in a lake. Till was a a major Icon for the civil rights movement.
  • Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956

    Dwight Eisenhower signed a bill authorizing of $25 billion (some taken out of the United State's Defense Fund) to construct 41,000 miles of Interstate Highway. The highway was constructed for better internal transportation in case of foreign attack on the United States.
  • Dwight Eisenhower Reelected

    34th President of the United States. Won his 2 term on November, 6th 1956. He defeated Adlai Stevenson for the second time with 457 electoral college votes.
  • Little Rock Nine

    Little Rock Nine were nine African American high school students to enter Little Rock Central High School after the Brown VS The Board of Education established racial segregation unconstitutional.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1857

    First federal civil rights legislation passed by the United States Congress since the Civil Rights Act of 1875. Helped fight for desegregation, African American voting rights, and more.
  • NASA Formed

    National Aeronautics and Space Administration. An independent space program that does research on space and aeronautics.
  • Cuban Revolt victor.

    Revolt led by Fidel Castro that would eventually lead to the overthrow of military dictator of Cuban President Fulgencio Batista. Revolt lasted from 26 July 1953 – 1 January 1959
  • Civil Rights Act of 1960

    Administered Federal inspection of voting. This allowed protection against obstruction of voting due to race.
  • Vietnam War Begins

    1 November 1955 – 30 April 1975. The official beginning happens in 1961 when 900 military advisors land in the most popular city in Vietnam, Saigon. Civil war against North and South Vietnam. North was supported by China (Soviet Union) and the South was supported by America.
  • President John F. Kennedy

    35th President of the United States. Term lasted from January 20, 1961 – November 22, 1963. Known for his service to his county as a Lieutenant in the Navy and then as a politician in the House of Representatives. As the president, he was mostly focused on relations between the Soviet Union and Cuba. His presidency ws cut short when he was assassinated on November 22, 1963 by Lee Harvey Oswald
  • Berlin Crisis of 1961

    Lasted from 4 June – 9 November 1961. Last major political/military European incident of the Cold war. The crisis happened with the Soviet Union demanded that all military forces vacate Berlin, especially West Berlin Forces.
  • Engel V. Vitale

    Argued April 3, 1962, Decided June 25, 1962. Ruled official School prayer and it's enforcement unconstitutional.
  • President: Lyndon B Johnson

    Upon the assassination of John F. Kennedy, Johnson was president from November 22, 1963 – January 20, 1969. One of the only people to have served all four elected positions: vice president, House of Representative, Senate, and President.
  • 24th Amendment

    Ratified January 23rd, 1964. Prohibits the Poll Tax

  • Department of Transportation

    Mission: "to develop and coordinate policies that will provide an efficient and economical national transportation system, with due regard for need, the environment, and the national defense." Created on October 15, 1966
  • Viet Cong Tet Offensive

    Viet Cong (National Front for the Liberation of Vietnam) launched the Tet Offensive to attack command and control centers across South Vietnam. This was one of the biggest military campaigns in the Vietnam War.
  • Martin Luther King Jr Assassinated

    Martin Luther King Jr, a Baptist preacher and spokesman of the Civil Rights movement of the mid 1900's, was assassinated at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee, on April 4, 1968 by James Early Ray.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1968

    Signed by Lyndon B. Johnson. Act prohibited discrimination in the selling, renting, or financing of a house or property. Prohibited discrimination based on race, religion, and national origin.

    37th President. Term lasted from January 20, 1969 – August 9, 1974. Known for his unpopular involvement in the Vietnam War, the Watergate Scandal, and being the only president to resign from office.
  • Vietnamization

    A program developed by Nixon to end American involvement in the Vietnam by sending troops and supplies to train South Vietnam troops to defend themselves.
  • Neil Armstrong Walks of the Moon

    American NASA astronaut is the first to walk on the moon. The Apollo 13 was the aircraft that landed on the moon.
  • Cambodian Campaign

    A military campaign supported by Nixon to launch an attack on Cambodia in an attempt to take COSVN, the headquarters of Communist military operations in South Vietnam.
  • Pentagon Papers

    Papers on the United State's Defense System leaked by Daniel Ellsberg. These papers made public military decision involving the Vietnam that had been kept secret. .
  • Swann v. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education

    The Supreme Court decided for the mandatory busing to racially integrate schools.
  • Watergate Scandal

    Five people broke into the Democratic Committee National headquarters. The Nixon Administration covered up the knowledge of this. Therefore, the Nixon Administration found themselves heavily involved in public scandal, once word got out that they covered this up.
  • Roe Versus Wade

    Roe V. Wade deemed Texas' abortion ban unconstitutional and was in favor of women's right to choose between abortion or not with government restriction.
  • United States Withdraw from the Vietnam War

    The last of the United States combat troops left South Vietnam two months after the Vietnam peace treaty was signed. United States intervention in the Vietnam boundary dispute was over.
  • Nixon Resigns office

    After the Watergate Scandal, Nixon was under the proceedings for impeachment. Nixon decided to resign instead of face public scandal or impeachment in office. Nixon was the only president to resign office.
