Walt Disney’s second feature length movie is premiered. It was about a woodcarver named Geppetto who carved a wooden puppet named Pinocchio. This was one of Disney’s best works. -
Tom & Jerry
This cartoon was created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. It debuted the 10th by MGM. The characters were Tom (the scheming cat) and Jerry (the spunky mouse). They produced over 100 episodes. -
Pearl Harbor
This was at a US naval base near Honolulu in Hawaii. It was a surprise attack by the Japanese. Hundred of Japanese fighter planes descended on the base. Destroyed nearly 20 American naval ships. Over 2,400 Americans died and 1,000 wounded. Franklin Roosevelt asked congress to declare war on Japan. -
Rosie the riveter
Rosie was the star of the campaign aimed at recruiting female workers for defense industries. Naomi Parker was the name of a woman who was photographed while working. The photo was released through Acme photo agency. Naoimi, the inspiration of Rosie died at the age of 96. -

Berlin airlift
The US begins airlift of food, water, and medicine to citizens. This sustained over 2 million people nearly a year. On June 24,1948 the Soviet Union blocked travel to Berlin. Direct military response from the US then happened. -
Warsaw Pact
This was a mutual defense organization to pit soviets in command of armed forces of member states signed in Warsaw. This called on members states to come to defense of any member attacked by an outside force. It was signed by the Soviet Union and 7 other European satellites.
