  • US Successfully Makes An Atomic Bomb

    Scientists of the Manhattan Project ran their first successful atomic device test at the Trinity test site at Alamogordo, New Mexico.
  • Japan Refuses To Surrender

    Late July, 1945 Japan refuses to surrender after being asked to do so by the Allies.
  • Hiroshima Bombed

    At 8:15 am the atomic bomb was put in a parachute and let go, and it exploded 2000 feet above Hiroshima, making a blast equivalent to 15000 tons of TNT. Five square miles of the city was flattened.
  • Nagasaki Bombed

    A second atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, and it destroyed 2.6 square miles of the city.
  • Japan Surrenders

    At noon, on August 15th, 1945 Emperor Hirohito announced that Japan had surrendered, on a radio broadcast. World War II ended.
