  • Time Magazine is Founded

    The first issue of Time Magazine was published on March 3, 1923. Since its first appearance almost one-hundred years ago, it has become one of the most well-respected and popular sources for news and media in the world.
  • Vladimir Lenin Dies

    At the age of 54, Vladimir Lenin, supporter of the Marxist ideology and proponent in the Bolshevik Revolution, dies as a result of a brain hemorrhage.
  • Penicillin is Discovered

    St. Mary's Hospital Professor Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin and its uses when he returned from holiday in late 1928 and began examining several petri dishes of bacteria. It was discovered at this time that one of these new substances (Penicillin) was successful at killing harmful bacteria.
  • Wall Street Crashes

    The Wall Street Crash in 1929, also referred to as the "Great Crash" was the most drastic and intense stock market crash in history. This followed the crash of London's Stock Market that occurred in September as well, and this event was the beginning of the Great Depression in America.
  • Star Spangled Banner is Adopted

    After being written over one-hundred years ago at the time in 1814, United States President Woodrow Wilson signed an executive order naming the Star-Spangled Banner as the official national anthem of the United States.
  • FDR is Elected

    As a result of the election of 1932, Franklin Delano Roosevelt is named the 32nd president of the United States. His opponent, Herbert Hoover, lost as a result of the landslide victory for the democratic party.
  • World War II Begins

    Beginning on September 1, 1939 after Germany's invasion of Poland, World War II commenced and just days later France and the United States join in the fighting. Among the "Allied" powers in addition to the United States and France were Britain, Russia and China.
  • Pearl Harbor Attack

    The Japanese launched a surprise attack on the United States Naval base on the island of Oahu on December 7, 1941. This event was what triggered America to enter World War II, as their relations with Japan continued to worsen.
