On August 18, 1929, women finally secured the right to vote. With the addition of the 19th amendment, women would now be able to vote. Women having a voice in politics heavily changed the state of 1920's politics. Now that they had a say, the decsisions were not just made by men. -
Sacco-Vanzetti Trial Begins
On May 31, 1921, the trial of Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti begins. Nearly seven weeks later on July 14, these two men will be convicted of murder in the first degree. The two Italian-born anarchists were put to death on August 23, 1927. -
John Scopes is Arrested for Teaching Evolution
Schoolteacher John Scopes is arrested for teaching evolution, despite the new state law banning the teaching of Darwin. What follows is the ensuing "Scopes Trial". Scopes is eventually found guilty and fined $100. -

Lindbergh's First Solo Transatlantic Flight
Charles Lindbergh, an American aviator, completes his first solo transatlantic flight. 33 hours after departing from New York, Lindbergh lands his plane, "Spirit of Saint Louis", in Paris. Due to this flight, Lindbergh becomes a national hero for many Americans. -
Babe Ruth Hits 60th Home Run
Babe Ruth, a baseball superstar, hits his 60th home run in one season. At Yankee Stadium on September 30th, Babe Ruth broke his own record of 59 home runs in a season. His record of 60 home runs will stand for more than 30 years. -
"The Jazz Singer" Premieres
On October 6th, 1927 the first talking picture is released in theatres. Al Jolson's "The Jazz Singer" is widely regarded as the beginning of the end of silent films. -
Herbert Hoover Wins 1928 Election in Landslide Victory
In the election of 1928, Herbert Hoover (R) wins a landslide election against democratic challenger Al Smith. With 444 electoral votes, Hoover solidifies Republican hold on the White House. Hoover's popular campaign slogan was, "A chicken in every pot, a car in every garage." -

Walt Disney's Steamboat Willie premieres, introducing the world to a new animated character: Mickey Mouse. This character would go on to be a dominant figure in the animation industry. -
