    The Temperance Movement was the precursor to Prohibition. It was a fairly large Movement during the Progressive Era that pushed for the banning of alcohol. It start some time in the 1800s and is still going even if it is significantly smaller

    On October 28 1919 The Volstead Act was officially passed and with the help of the 18th Amendment started prohibition

    On January 17th 1920 the 18th Amendment was officially passed which (along with The Volstead Act) started prohibiton

    Prohibition was the period of time starting from when the 18th amendment was passed to when the 21st amendment was passed where the manufacturing, transportation, and sale of alcohol was made illegal
  • Al Capone starts bootlegging

    Al Capone starts bootlegging
    Al Capone with the help of Johnny Torrio starts bootlegging which pushes him into the public eye. It is not completely known when he started but it was sometime close to the start of prohibition
  • Al Capone gets convicted

    Al Capone gets convicted
    On November 24th 1931 Al Capone was sent to Alcatraz for tax-related crimes. He did get out early due to illness and was sent to the John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
  • 21st amendment

    21st amendment
    On December 5th 1933 the 21st Amendment was passed which officially ended Prohibition.
