18th Amendment
The 18th admendment was passed in 1919. It prohibited the manufacture, sale, transport, import, or export of alcoholic beverages. There was a lot of controversy, but people still foun ways to drink -
Volstead Act
The Volstead Act established a Phrobation Bureau in the Treasury Department in 1919. It included enforcement patrolling the coastlines,borders, and highways. -
Palmer Raids
The Palmer Raids were Mitchell Palmers attempts to save America from Russia taking it over, and making it communist. He arrested over 10,000 suspected communist and anarchist> eventually many were relased or deported. -
19th Amendment Ratified
Th 19th amendment was ratified in August of 1920. It gave women their hard earned right to vote. -
Sacco&Vanzetti
In 1920 Sacco and Vanzetti were aressted and charged with robery and murder. They were found guilty and killed because of their ethnicty because there wasn't even exact evidence they did it. -
Teapot Dome Affair
The Teapot Dome Affair is a scandel where Albert Fall leased Navy patroluem reserves at Teapot Dome and other places at low rates without competitive bidding. Later news got out and Fall was convicted of bribery. -
National Origins Act
The National Origins Act was an act passed in 1924 set a quota of 150,000 immigrants into the country a year. -
Scopes Trial
This trial was a fight over evoltuion and the role of science and religion in schools. Tennessee had passed a law making it illegal to teach evolution, and Scopes did. He went to court and was found guilty and had to pay $100 for teaching it. -
Charles Lindbergh Crosses The Atlantic
In May 1920 Linbergh set off for paris from New York. It took him 33 hours and 29 minutes to get there. His accomplishment paved way for many others. -

The first talking movie The Jazz Singer was realeased. This led to many other movies and advancments in technology. -
Herbert Hoover Elected President
In 1929 Hoover was elected President. Hoover was a mining engineer who had never run for office, yet he still won. This showed that Americans were happy with Republican rule. -
Stock Market Crash
In October 1929 the stock market crashed. Many stockholders panicked and tryed to sell their shares before it plunged even lower. It went lower and many people had huge debts as the prices went lower, and others lost all thier savings. This led to the Great Depression. -
The Red Scare
After revolutaionaries overthrew Russia and established Communism they talked about abolishing capitilism everywhere. A communist party formed in the U.S.A and bombs were mailed to the government leaders the public got scared they were taking over.
