1914-1929

  • The Beginning of world war 1

The Beginning of world war 1
On the day of August 4th 1914, Canada joined the First World War to assist Great Britain. The starting of world war 1 is a decline in my eyes because Canada didn’t achieve or gain anything from the start of the war. Canada didn’t have developed things such as our Air Force and didn’t develop as much into a nation compared to the end of the war. This is why it’s a decline.
  • The military services act

    The military services act
In 1917 the amount of voluntary enlistments had dropped significantly in Canada. The jobs back home were becoming good enough for the soldiers to go back. Then, Prime minister Borden introduced the conscription bill. The conscription bill was to enlistment more soldiers to assist in the war. As well as get some more French-Canadians in the war since many did not enlist. I believe this is a decline for Canada as this act forced people to join the army within a Certain age no matter what.
  • The war time elections act

    The war time elections act
The wartime elections act was an act that gave females the right to vote if they were related to a soldier, but excluded voting from immigrants and coloured people. This would be a progress in my opinion because it was the very first chance that women could finally vote in Canada. Although it did exclude groups of people, it was still the first time females could vote in Canada.
  • The election

    The election
This election was one of the important ones, it would help decide Canada’s future. It was a great controversy on the conscription and a problem with the French Canadians and English Canadians relationship. I think this election between Robert Borden and Wilfred Laurier was a decline. The reason being, that Wilfred Laurier's attempts to beat Borden were not great enough since Borden technically “cheated” the system into winning. It also ruined the relationship within Canada and split the country.
  • The Spanish flu

    The Spanish flu
Somewhere within 1918, the Spanish flu was spread throughout Canada. The cause of the Spanish flu spreading was actually from returning soldiers. The soldiers would easily become sick from the conditions they were in during the war. This is what most likely caused the flu. This is a decline because the flu took many Canadians lives. It was to be estimated around 55,000 lives in Canada from the Spanish flu.
  • Armistice day

    Armistice day
Armistice or now known as Remembrance Day, was the ending of world war 1. On the 11th month of the 11th day on the 11th hour, Germany signed an armistice. Which meant that both sides of the war wanted to agree to stop the fighting. This would be a progress for Canada in my opinion. This is an obvious progress as the war had ended and Canada had a victory in the war. Canada also left the war with many achievements and proved them selves as a nation rather than just England’s allies
  • Rural hospitals

    Rural hospitals
In the 1920s rural hospitals were brought to Alberta and Saskatchewan. At this time Canada was hoping to get modern medical services. That were easily accessible by the local people and community. This is a progress as this was Canada’s way of trying to bring new modern medical services. It was a plan to bring medical services to local and community areas. Many of these hospitals were made in Saskatchewan and Alberta.
  • Fredrick Banting

    Fredrick Banting
In 1921, Fredrick Banting and his colleague Charles Best discovered the first treatment to diabetes, which was insulin. This is definitely a progress for Canada. In the year of 1921 insulin was discover by Fredrick Banting and his colleague Charles best. The first treatment of diabetes with insulin was on January 11th, 1922 on a 14 year old boy named Leonard Thompson. Banting and his colleague saved his life and so many others from the discovery insulin.
  • Agnes Macphail

    Agnes Macphail
1921 was the year of the first women to ever be elected and be a member of Parliament. I would say this a progress for Canada as this was the first women to be a member of parliament. Agnes Macphail pushed to reshape how prison was like and the penal system. She also supported things like prison reshaping, workers rights, women’s rights and equality. This was a progress because Agnes had put up a good fight to bring equality to Canada.
  • Pier 21

    Pier 21
In 1924 there was a solution made for the medium sized pier 2 that couldn’t handle all the immigrants coming in. This pier would be called pier 21, it was officially opened in March of 1928. Pier 21 was a great progress for Canada. Pier 21 helped many immigrants come to Canada and helped Canada become a much more diverse country than others. This is a progress because it allowed greats amount of people to be living in a free country, called Canada.
