    On October 24th, 1911, Orville Wright stayed in the air for 9 minutes and 45 seconds. He created a world record which stood for 10 years.

    On April 15, 1912, the RMS Titanic sank off the coast of Newfoundland at 2:27 AM. It hit the iceberg that sank it at 11:40 PM on April 14, the night before.

    On May 22, 1915, Lassen Peak, located in Northern California, erupted. It was the only other volcano other then Mount St. Helens to erupt in continential US in the 20th century
  • Jersey Shore shark attacks

    Jersey Shore shark attacks
    On July 3, 1916, the first of three fatal shark attacks occurred near the Jersey Shore. Four people died total as a result of the attacks. What was interesting about these attacks was that they happened in a fresh-water creek not the open salt-water ocean. The shark was responsible for the attacks and deaths was believed to be at least 8 feet long.

    On December 11th, 1917, 13 black soldiers were hung in San Antonio, Texas. They were hung in secret at dawn right outside of a military camp.

    On February 26, 1918, stnads at a Hong Kong stadium collapsed and caught fire. Ironically, it was called Happy Valley Racecourse and 604 people were known to have died, but the people who's bodies burned completley will never be known.
