On January 2nd, 1910, the first middle school opened. It is still open today in Iowa under the name Indianola Junior HIgh School. -

On October 24th, 1911, Orville Wright stayed in the air for 9 minutes and 45 seconds. He created a world record which stood for 10 years. -
RMS Titanic sinks
On April 15, 1912, the RMS Titanic sank off the coast of Newfoundland at 2:27 AM. It hit the iceberg that sank it at 11:40 PM on April 14, the night before. -
17th Amendment
On May 31st, the 17th amendment (the direct election of senators) was ratified. -
Model T assembly line introduced
On January 14th, 1914, Henry Ford introduced the assembly line for the Modle-T car. -
Lassen Peak erupts
On May 22, 1915, Lassen Peak, located in Northern California, erupted. It was the only other volcano other then Mount St. Helens to erupt in continential US in the 20th century -
Jersey Shore shark attacks
On July 3, 1916, the first of three fatal shark attacks occurred near the Jersey Shore. Four people died total as a result of the attacks. What was interesting about these attacks was that they happened in a fresh-water creek not the open salt-water ocean. The shark was responsible for the attacks and deaths was believed to be at least 8 feet long. -
13 soldiers hung
On December 11th, 1917, 13 black soldiers were hung in San Antonio, Texas. They were hung in secret at dawn right outside of a military camp. -
Stadiums collapse in Hong Kong
On February 26, 1918, stnads at a Hong Kong stadium collapsed and caught fire. Ironically, it was called Happy Valley Racecourse and 604 people were known to have died, but the people who's bodies burned completley will never be known. -
Great Molasses Flood
On Janurary 15th, 1919, 2 million gallons of molasses flooded Boston. 21 people were killed. -
19th Amendment
On August 18th, 1920, the 19th amendment of the constitution was ratified. This allowed all women in America to vote. -
Theory of Relativity
On April 2nd, 1921, Abert Einstein gave a lecture in New York about his "Theory of Relativity". -
First treatment of diabetes
On January 11th, 1922, insuin was used to treat diabetes for the first time. It was used on a 14-year old boy from Canada. -
USSR Established
On January 1st, 1923, the USSR was established. Vladimir Lenin was a huge part in the making of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republic.
