    The seventeenth amendment is ratified, allowing for U.S. citizens to cast direct votes for U.S. senators.

    World War I

    World War I started after Austria declared war on Serbia following the assassination of Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand. The war would go global, spanning to all ends of the earth. This war would be known as "The Great War" as well as "the war to end all wars." The war would end with Germany's signing of an armistice agreement with the Allies.

    The eighteenth amendment is ratified, prohibiting the "manufacture, sale, or transportation of intoxicating liquors."

    The general American population became concerned about the threat of communism in the American labor movement.
  • Treaty of Versailles Signed

    The Treaty of Versailles was shaped by the Allied victors of World War I. The treaty would reduce Germany's population and territory by about 10 percent and would force them to accept the war guilt clause.

    The nineteenth amendment is ratified, allowing women the right to vote.
