This was a period of tension between the US an the Soviet union being on the cusp of nuclear war. Luckily in 1991 there was peacemaking operations launched to dissolve the tension and the war then ended. It is known as the Cold war because there wasn't a single shot fired at anyone. -

In 2001, the most brutal and intimidating terrorist attack in American history took place on the world trade center by the ISIS terrorist group. This attack is the reason we have the moment of silence after the pledge of allegiance, and some who were alive when the attacks happen report that conflict between races and ethnic groups dissolved for a little while during the nations mourning. -
