  • Missouri Compromise

    The Missouri Compromise allowed Maine and Missouri to enter as either a slave state or a free state,so Maine entered as a free state and Missouri entered as a slave state. When Missouri became a slave state it gave the confederates more men to fight the Union because Missouri was apart of the Louisiana land purchase so this made Louisiana also a slave state.

  • Election of 1860

    Abraham Lincoln was elected as the Republican vote of Illinois and was then elected president. The south felt like they were minorities so many people and states like Georgia he had no votes from. Source: (Georgia Studies Textbook Chapter 15)
  • Battle of Gettysburg

    Was the bloodiest battle between the Union and Confederates and the Union won the battle but still suffered many casualties. Many Confederate Generals that fought in this battle were from Georgia such as,James Longstreet but they all suffered from depression and felt responsible for all the thousands of men they lost.

  • Andersonville Prison

    Was a confederate prison is Georgia that was established in 1864. The confederates originally planned on having 10,000 prisoners but as the war grew on they later had 30,000 prisoners which led to the union prisoners starving because of the confederates low supplies.

  • 13th Amendment

    Abolished slavery in the south and prevents slavery in the U.S until this day. Even though the 13th amendment abolished slavery all women still suffered from unequal rights such as the right to vote, so a group of women hosted the first Womens National Convention.

  • Ku Klux Klan

    Was a hate group that did not care for African Americans and would sometimes murder our abuse them. Although the KKK did not like blacks they also did not agree with Republicans decisions and they used wealthy white men to try and overthrow them.
