The Missouri Compromise evenly split the number of slave states and the number of free states after conflict had arisen between pro-slavery supporters and abolitionists. It granted Missouri as a slave state in exchange for the rest of the Louisiana purchase to be free states. -

A doctrine that stated that states should hold more power than the federal government. -
Indian Removal Act
Authorized the negotiation of removal of Native Americans who lived east of the Mississipi River to lands in the west. -
