    67,000 acres of government owned land were bought because people wanted to have their own farms. The following year 498,000 more acres were bought.

    At the time congress was heavily ruled by Republicans, but they were also first time legislators.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    Bought during the presidency of Thomas Jefferson, making the size of the united states more than double in size. The land was bought from France after it was given back to them from Spain.
  • Jefferson's Inauguration

    His was the first ever election that resulted in a transfer of power from one political party to the opposing.
  • Marbury v. Madison

    It was the first Supreme Court decision to declare a federal law. The case was presided be Cheif of Justice John Marshall who was heavily self taught.

    Jefferson consulted congress if he could send two people on an expedition to see what the territory was like of the Louisiana Purchase. One of the people being a 29 year-old secretary named Lewis.
  • Ending the Transatlantic Salve Trade

    Jefferson signed a landmark bill to make it illegal after her reduced national debt and shrinking the federal budget.
  • Haiti and the U.S.

    16,000 refugees came from Haiti to the United States. Later issues from this prevented Americans to do business in Haiti and did not even recognize Haiti’s independence until 1862 because of the U.S. government.
