The Election of 1800
Thomas Jefferson was the head of the Republicans and supported the cultural part of America. In the Election of 1800 Jefferson and Burr got the same amount of votes which then required a deciding vote from the House of Representatives that chose Jefferson as the new president. -
Louisiana purchase
After France took over Spain territory, Napoleon took over the Mississippi river which was very important for the colonists. President Jefferson sent a ambassador to France to buy the region of the Mississippi river from them but to their surprise Napoleon sell America all of Louisiana for the reason that Napoleon needed to get rid of it. Jefferson bought Louisiana and doubled the size of america. -
Lewis and Clark's expedition
Jefferson asked the congress to make and expedition to the new territory to fin the most "practicable water communication across the continent." Jefferson preceded to appoint Luis and Clark to make an expedition on the Louisiana territory. They would have been lost if it wasn't for Sacagawea who was a native american. She was their guide and translator throughout the journey. -
Embargo act
President Jefferson convinced Republicans in the congress to cut off all american foreign trade. This meant that no ship could sell to foreign ports. This act was made to stop the British and French from attacking their ships and they thought that cutting all trade with the British would make them stop, but it didn't. -
The War of 1812
The war of 1812 was the first time that the congress declared war. President Madison and the republicans thought that it was the best way to stop the British from kidnapping their sailor and influencing the Indians to attack the colonies. -
The treaty of Ghent
The treaty made the British and the Americans agree to return each side's prisoners and restore the previous boundaries. The British also pledged to stop influencing the Indians to attack America along the Great Lakes. The battles that trace forward to the treaty were considered a second war of Independence. Unfortunately before the news of the treaty reached the United States the British planned to take over New Orleans which transforms to the battle of New Orleans. -
Battle of New Orleans
The British wanted to conquer New Orleans and take over the Mississippi river which was essential for America. General Andrew Jackson rushed to New Orleans to prepare his army against the British. His army was very diverse including African Americas. Andrew built a trench and created a great strategy that caused him to lose less than 71 men while the British lost 2,100 men. The British left empty-handed and Andrew became a hero and created a wave of patriotism. -
The Panic of 1819
The cause of the panic of 1819 was the collapse of cotton prices which was the main export of America. This was because of the British getting cheaper cotton from the British colonies in Egypt and India. This caused farmers to be indebted to the bank, factories struggling to find markets for their goods, and people blaming the bank of america. -
Monroe Doctrine
The Monroe Doctrine was the most important diplomatic policy crafted by the president Monroe and the secretary of State John Adams. The doctrine was made to prevent future European invasions in the Western Hemisphere. Spain had lost almost all of their territory in South America because of independence of each country and they planned on taking it back soon and this concerned America because it would mean European intervention in america. -
Erie Canal
The Erie Canal was finally finished in 1825 in central New York that is connected to the Great Lakes and the Midwest to the Hudson river and New York city. The Erie Canal was an engineering triumph and pronounced the longest canal in the world. Because of the Erie canal transportation of goods that took three weeks it now took only eight days. It also inspired different states to build canals to transport people and goods which also transformed small villages to big cities.
