Louisiana Purchase
The Louisiana Purchase occurred between the U.S. and France, giving the U.S. obtained over 827,000 square miles of land, located to the West of the Mississippi River, for 15 million dollars. -
Abolition of African Slave Trade
Congress officially abolishes African slave trade. However, the slave population in the South remained, because the overall widespread slave trade was not prohibited, and the children of the previous slaves still remained. -
War of 1812
The War of 1812 between the U.S. and England happened after Britain continuously violated several of America’s maritime laws. This war ended with the Treaty of Ghent in December of 1814. -
Texas Revolution
The Texas Revolution occurred after texans started getting upset for the Mexican government trying to take complete control of them. The Revolution ended in the Spring of 1836 with the Treaty of Velasco and the establishment of the Republic of Texas. -
California Gold Rush
Gold was discovered near Coloma, California. This ultimately lead to a preposterous increase in the population of California: over 250,000 people. Also, Native Americans were getting attacked to move off their land so that people could mine. -

Civil War
The Civil War occurred due to the economic and political issues that came about when deciding if slavery was moral. The South wanted slavery because their economy was booming with all of the slave labor harvesting their crops, but the North disagreed with slavery entirely. The War began with the Battle at Fort Sumter and ended with the Battle at Palmito Ranch. In 1865, the ratification of the Thirteenth Amendment abolished slavery as a whole.
