The war of 1812 occurred between 1812-1815 and is often called America's second war for independence. The war started after the British continually unfairly taxed and restricted U.S. After a long fought battle and even the burning of the White house the war of 1812 ended with the Treaty of Ghent, which basically stated that the British wouldn't unfairly tax the United states anymore. -

In the early 1850's the story "Uncle Tom's Cabin" by Harriet Beecher Stowe was published. This story sheds a light on the true horrors of slavery and what the African American slaves went through at the time. -

Start Of The Civil War
As the U.S. added new states the issue of slavery between the north and the south became more and more important. Several compromises were made but tension finally boiled over after Abraham Lincoln became president. The south feeling like their right to have slaves were threatened began to leave the U.S. one by one. Once confederate soldiers fired on fort Sumter the American Civil war began. -
Slavery Is Outlawed In The U.S.
In December of 1865 the 13th Amendment officially passed outlawing the practice of slavery. -
