Gabriel's Rebellion
In 1800, a slave by the name of Gabriel with nearly one thousand other slaves, planned to attack the city of Richmond. Their attack never occured because two slaves told their masters of the plot. Gabriel was captured and hung along with 25 other slaves. -

In 1803, Thomas Jefferson purchased Louisiana Territory from Napoleon Bonaparte for 15 million dollars. It is considered to be the largest real estate deal in the United States. -

The New Orleans was the first steamboat "to navigate the internal waterways of the North American continent from one end to the other and remain capable of returning home"(American Yawp). This lead to more water-way travel through steamboats. -

The War of 1812 was mainly between the United States and Britain. It started because of tension between the two countries because of the Revolutionary War and Britain's use of force to convert American sailors into their navy. The war lasted two years and ended with the Treaty of Ghent. -
Erie Canal
The Erie Canal was built in 1825. It was a 350 mile-long man-made waterway. It linked the Great Lakes, Hudson River, and Atlantic Ocean. This creation increase trade and allowed an easier transportation of goods. -
Nat Turner's Rebellion
Nat Turner was a slave who claimed to be visited by spirits. These spirits told him to free the slaves. Turner ended up killing his master with a blow to the head by an axe. After gaining 50 followers, he killed fifty-seven white men, women and children. The following day, they were captured and executed, -
Panic of 1837
The Panic of 1837 was due to the run on banks during this time caused by President Jackson. Land sells began to decrease cause the American economy to fall. This cause citizens to go to banks to exchange their bank notes for hard currency. Banks eventually ran out of currency, This helped send America into an economic depression. -
Trail of Tears
The Trail of Tears was the name of the journey the Indians had to take as a result of President Jackson's Indian Removal Policy. Indians were forced to move away from their homeland and march to a new location. Thousands died from starvation.
