    Declaration of Independence
    The Declaration of Independence is the fundamental document of the United States. It separated our ties with the British Government making the U.S it's own nation. The three main ideas of this document is "All men are equal, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."
  • George Washington becomes President

    George Washington becomes President
    George Washington is the first President of the United States. He was the obvious choice since he was a national hero being a General and leading America to victory which made Virginia the largest state at the time proud of him.
  • First United States Bank

    First United States Bank
    In 1791, Alexander Hamilton, the first secretary of the Treasury created the First Bank of the United states to assist a post-Revolutionary War economy that not everyone agree with.
  • Cotton Gin was invented

    Cotton Gin was invented
    Eli Whitney created the cotton gin in 1793 and patten it in 1794. This invention would have one of the biggest impacts on the social and economic conditions that would lead to the Civil War.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    Louisiana Purchase
    Thomas Jefferson purchased 530,000,000 acres of land that went for $15 million from France. At the time it didn't seem like a smart decision due to America not having a lot of money at the time, but this purchase doubled the current size of America.
  • Expedition of Lewis and Clark

    Expedition of Lewis and Clark
    In 1804 to 1806 Lewis and Clark ventured off to the west in exploration of the new Louisiana Purchase territory. Along this journey they mapped the geography, took note of the biota of the new region, and established relationships with the Native Americans along their path.
  • Texas added as a State

    Texas added as a State
    In 1845, Texas becomes the 28th state of the United States of America. Texas was formally an independent country and since it's independence it wanted annexation by the United States, but this process took almost 10 years due to political divisions over slavery.
  • First Women's Rights Movement

    First Women's Rights Movement
    The whole purpose of this movement was that woman wanted to fight back and win the right to vote. At this time women were not allowed to vote, own property, or own their own money without giving it to their husband. This movement was the first step to fixing many issues for women at this time.
  • Start of the Civil War

    Start of the Civil War
    The Civil War began on April 12, 1861, when the south/Confederates fired on Fort Sumter in Charleston, South Carolina, making the beginning of a long war between the North and South. The main reason of this war was that the Northern free states and the Southern slave states fought over the issue of slavery and it's expansion into new territories.
  • End of Civil War

    End of Civil War
    The Civil War ended on April 9, 1865, at the surrender at Appomattox Court House, by General Robert E. Lee bringing the Civil war to an end. President Andrew Johnson formally ended the war not until August 20, 1866.
