Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence was adopted by congress. This marked when the United States declared independence. -
Meeting of The Constitutional Convention
These people met to revise the Articles of Confederation and later scrapping it making the Constitution. -
The Constitution is ratified
The Constitution is ratified and approved into law. This marks the creation of the laws of the land. -
Louisiana Purchase
The Louisiana territory was bought by Thomas Jefferson. This help with manifest destiny to help expand from sea to shining sea. -
The Atlantic slave trade was abolished
The slave trade of abolished in the US but domestic trade began to grow. In the next 50 years the slave population will triple. -
War of 1812
This war was fought between the newly independent America and Great Britain. This was fought over land disputes and trade. This also turned the Native people against the USA because the British used them to fight them. -
Florida Purchase
The US bought the Florida territory from the Spanish. This allowed them to expand and colonize the land. -
Monroe Doctrine
This doctrine was put in place saying the US will not interfere with the foreign countries. It also stated that the Western Hemisphere is off limits to more colonization. -
Indian Removal Act
Forced relocation of Native American tribes from their ancestral lands to reservations west of the Mississippi River. This is the start of moving of the Natives in order to expand into the land. -
Lincoln election
Lincoln took office after the 1860 presidential election. He would then issue the Emancipation Proclamation freeing all slaves a year later.
