  • Industrial Revoloution

    Industrial Revoloution
    The Industrial Revolution was known as the transition to new manufacturing processes that occurred in the period of 1760 to sometime between 1820 and 1840. The industrial revolution was a significant event as it initiated the starting point for innovative construction of other machinery. The work of the Industrial Revolution occurred in factories. It resulted in a significant amount of new inventions, such as steam-powered engines. It also resulted in child labour laws preventing such work.

    Boston Tea Party
    The Boston Tea party is sometimes known as "the destruction of the tea". The event involved American colonists that dumped large amounts of tea into Boston Harbor. This event occurred as the colonists were against the tax policy of the British government and the East India Company. These two companies were the ones that controlled all the tea imported into the colonies. This was a way for the citizens to protest against this action.

    The American Revolution was known to be a political outbreak during the last half of the 18th century. It was known that thirteen colonies in North America grouped together to break from the British Empire, combining to become what is now known as the United States of America. The war is believed to have begun over a disagreement in which Great Britain treated the colonies versus the way the colonies felt they should be treated.

    First Fleet Arrives in Australia
    The First Fleet arrived on 26 January 1788. The name is given to the eleven ships that left Great Britain, that were heading for Australia. The fleet left on 13 May 1787. The fleet consisted of criminal convicts that had been arrested in Great Britain. This was their opportunity to remove the criminals from society by sending them away to another land. Approximately 750 convicts, soldiers and government officials were shipped to Australia. This was the starting point for colonization.

    The French revolution was an event that took place between May 1879 - 1804. Some of the causes of the French Revolution were 7 years of war, a large amount of high taxes and Poverty/Bread shortage & cost. The French leaders at the time were unable to form an agreement on the power of authority. By being unable to agree, the popular discontent with all the citizens continued. This resulted in the Fundamental document of the French Revolution.
  • New York Stock and Exchange Board founded

    New York Stock and Exchange Board founded
    The New York Stock Exchange Board is known as the oldest and largest stock exchange in the U.S. The board was (and currently is) located on Wall Street in New York City. The NYSE is responsible for things such as setting policy and supervising member activities .The board started when a group of brokers met under a tree at the tip of Manhattan. It is believed that they signed an agreement to trade securities. The NYSE still uses the large trading floor to process its trading.
  • UK defeated French and Spanish fleets and dominated the seas

    UK defeated French and Spanish fleets and dominated the seas
    27 British ships led by a captain by the name ofAdmiral Lord Nelson, successfully defeated the French and Spanish fleets in the Battle of Trafalgar. The France/Spanish fleet lost twenty-two ships, without any British vessels being lost. This is an important event in history as it was a very successful defeat by the British, resulting in a reputation of strong power and fear to other colonies.

    Construction of the Statue of Liberty
    The symbolic statue was built as a sign of friendship between France and America. The statue was originally built in France, but was then later shipped to the US. The statue was given to the Americans just after the American Revolution. The French people presented it to the people of America on July 4, 1884. To this day, the Statue of Liberty still stands in America, and still remains one of their most prized statues. *Actual day of construction is unknown.

    Greek Revolution/Greek War of Independence
    The Greek Revolution is also known as the Greek War of Independence. The Greek War of Independence was a successful war of independence that was carried on by the Greek revolutionaries between 1821 and 1832. The Greeks later received assistance from countries such as Russia, France, the United Kingdom and many other European powers against the Ottoman Empire. The Greek revolution was encouraged by the French Revolution, alongside with successful revolutions in Serbia and Moldavia.
  • 1st US Railroad Station opens

    1st US Railroad Station opens
    The first train station in America was built in Ellicott City, Maryland. This was a significant event in history as it was mainly influenced by the Industrial Revolution. This was a significant event as it showed the power of man-kind and what humans were able to achieve in that time of age. It was built in 1830 by the B and O Railroad Company. The station since then has been converted into The B and O Railroad Station Museum, in order to preserve its heritage of history.
  • Opium War

    The Opium War is also known as the Anglo-Chinese Wars. The war started in 1839 and ended in 1842. The Opium War was initiated when the imperialist nations wanted the goods and products from China, such as Silk and spices. The Chinese did not want to pay too much for these products and had difficulty finding the products that the Chinese would want to buy. The Emperor saw the degeneration and corruption of the people caused by the Opium and removed the Imperialists and burned the Opium stocks.

    The California Gold Rush occurred between 1848–1855. The Gold rush initially began on January 24, 1848. The Gold rush was caused when gold was found by James W. Marshall at Sutter's Mill in Coloma, California. The news of the newly discovered gold brought approximately 300,000 people to California from the rest of the United States and abroad. Of the approximate 300,000 people seeking gold, half arrived by sea and half came from the east overland on the California Trail and the Gila River trail.

    Indian Mutiny occurred in 1857. The Indian Mutiny was known as a rebellion caused by the Indians. This rebellion occurred as the British were forming an empire in India. They decided by forming an empire they would require expanding over India. Of course, this was taken as an offence by the Indians; therefore they fought against the issue. The British also started using the Indian Military; therefore this resulted in Indians fighting against Indians, a race fighting against itself.

    The American Civil War is also known as the War between the States. It is believed that the American Civil War started just before Abraham Lincoln was elected as president. Slavery was a very popular trend at the time and was a way of life for most people. Citizens feared that if Abraham Lincoln was elected to be their president, he would abolish slavery which would clear their income. There were also some Economical and social differences between the North and the South, resulting in civil war.
  • Assassination of Abraham Lincoln

    Assassination of Abraham Lincoln
    The assassination of Abraham Lincoln, who was the President of the United States at the time, took place on Good Friday, April 14, 1865, as the American Civil War was drawing to a close. The assassination is believed to have happened five days after the commander of the Confederate Army surrendered to Lieutenant General Ulysses and the Union Army of the Potomac. Lincoln was the first American president to ever be assassinated, though there were other unsuccessful attempts(eg.Andrew Jackson(1835)
  • The Capture of Ned Kelly

    The Capture of Ned Kelly
    After years of successfully eluding the police, in June 1880 the Kelly Gang deliberately staged a final confrontation at Glenrowan in Victoria. Ned Kelly had hoped that this confrontation would start and initiate a rebellion of citizens against what he saw as an unjust legal system. Ned Kelly had been staying at a hotel. Police started a fire in the hotel to smoke out the remaining gang members. Ned Kelly was the only survivor. He was tried by Judge Redmond Barry and sentenced to death.

    Australia Adopts the Westminister System of Government
    The Westminister System of Government was a Political System adopted by Australia in 1885. Australia is one of the few countries to achieve a federation by negotiation oppose to violent acts. The responsible system of government was adopted. As Australia became effectively independent of the UK, there was increasing pressure to become a republic, but this question was never resolved. Australia uses the Westminister system as it is under the rule of the UK.
  • Assassination of Italy's King 'Umberto I'

    Assassination of Italy's King 'Umberto I'
    Assassination of Italy's King 'Umberto I' King Umberto I was assassinated on the 29th of July 1900. It is believed that on the evening of July 30, an anarchist by the name of Angelo Bresci, shot the king of Italy, King Umberto I, three times. The assassination was in retaliation for a violently crushed 1898 labour revolt. His son, Victor Emmanuel III, succeeded King Umberto I. Assassinations were often caused by a dispute between a group of citizens and a leader of a country.
  • Sinking of the RMS Titanic

    Sinking of the RMS Titanic
    The British ship, RMS Titanic, sank at 2:20 AM on April 15th 1912. The sinking of Titanic caused large amounts of deaths, as many as 1,502 people. This event has been known as one of the deadliest disasters in modern history. The Titanic had collided with an Iceberg at 11:40pm (14th of April). When the rescue boats arrived, they had discovered that some of the survivors had died of hypothermia shortly after they were recovered. This boat was meant to be known as an "Unsinkable Boat".
  • World War I

    World War I
    World War I was known as a world-wide war that was mainly centred in Europe. The War began on 28th of July 1914 and lasted until 11th of November 1918. The Germans were fighting on two fronts, one in France, the other in Russia. This splitting of forces weakened Germany's ability to win. It is believed that the Germans could have likely won WWI, if the USA hadn't come into the war by April of 1917, to reinforce deteriorating conditions in France. Germany solely accept the blame for WWI.
