    On page 1, Huck thinks that lying is allright, thats its nothing. He concludes that Tom's stories are better if they are embelished by lies. This example shows that Huck, at least in the begging, doesn't care about lying.

    Huck and Jim want to stay updated on the information of the places they are traveling to. This quote describes Hucks efforts to gain information by disguising himself as a girl; Jim agrees. They tell a white lie in order to receive information. This is fine to a certain extent, if the lie doesn't get out of control. These little lies could develop a habit of lying. This particular lie resulted in good info. It also allowed our protagonists to escape.

    Huck lies for Jim when the King and Duke ask if Jim is a runaway slave. He doesn't want Jim to be turned in so he tells a long story about why Jim is with him. Lying to protect Jim is not selfish and could have been dangerous.

    On pg 176, The King lies about being with HUck on the Pint to save his own skin. He doesn't want to be hanged. This is self interest.

    The king lies when he says he is the Dauphin: the son of Louis and Marie Antoinette. Not only did the Dauphin live hundreds of years ago, but died as a child in prison. The King is probably lying to trick Jim and Huck. Jim is amazed when he hears the story and is interested. The king has an alterior movtive.

    In Chapter 20, oage 114, Huck lies for Jim when the Kind and Duke are thinking JIm stole their money. HUck didn't take it, but he most likely fears for Jim and just says he did it. HUck lies to help someone innocent; this is a deeper truth.
