Jamestown
The english settlers founded Jamestown, led by captain John Smith. This was the first permanent settlement in the new world (Of the People, 63) -
Anglo-Powhatan War
The first Anglow-Powhatan War was in 1610 and lasted until 1614. It started after they came to the new world and the Indians captured some of them but wouldnt return them. Then the people of Jamestown retaliated adn it began the War. (Of the People, 66). -
Tobacco
((not sure about the exact day...))) John Rolfe created a new strain of tobacco, the first successful crop. This crop transformed the colony basically overnight, VA was expereincing an economic boom! (Of the People, 66) -
30 Years War
The 30 years war started in 1618 when the Protestants revolted against the Catholics. It was a series of Wars in Europe, it was one of tthe most destructive Wars ("Historical/Cultural Timeline."). -
JQA Born
John Quincey Adams was born in Massachusetts, the first son and John and Abagail Adams. He was born, "when the seeds of the Revolution were sprouting; periodic riots erupted in Boston, New York, Phidelphia, and other American towns." (Unger, 6). -
Bunker Hill
John Qunicy Adams and his mother witnessed bunker hill from the hilltop behind their house. John Quincy Adams said, " the battle and the carnage it left made "an impression in my mind" that hunted him the rest of his life." (Unger, 14-16) -
Abololition
The quarkers in Philadelphia established the world fist ani-slavery society. Other Northern states abolish slavery gradually after, the are all anti-slavery by 1800s. (I got this out of the notes and not me book or online). -
Constitution
The constitution was written and signed in 1787, although it was later ratified. The 55 men met in Phidelphia for almost four months in secret before the constituion was signed, (Of the Peple, 218) -
First President
George Washington was the first President of the United States, he took office in March even though he didnt take an oath until April. He was in office until 1797, when he made his famous farwell address. (Of the People, 230) -
French Revolution
The revolution began with the storming of the Bastilles. It lasted until 1799, and followed the seven years war ( "Historical/Cultural Timeline."). -
Marie Antoinette Died
Maria Anntoinette was executed following her trail. This happened nine months after the execution of her husband ("Historical/Cultural Timeline."). -
JQA Married
John Quincy Adams married Louisa Catherine Johnson, the English-born daughter of a diplomat. Earlier that year in February he told her younger sister that he planned on marrying Lousia. (Unger, 99). -
Election of 1800
Thomas Jeffereson was elected president, the "revolution of 1800". He was the third president of the US until 1809. (in notes) -
Haiti Independence
Haiti declared its independence from France. It was the first black nation to gain independence from European rule ("Historical/Cultural Timeline."). -
Secretary of State
James Monroe appointed John Qunicy Adams to Secretary of State in his cabinet. Monroe had been waiting for Adams to return to the coutry to appoint his cabinet. This decision upset Henry Clay because he wanted it as a step in the step ladder to become president. (Unger, 194). -
Mexico Independence
In 1821 Mexico ganied independence from Spain. They gained it after the Mexican War for independence which lasted about 20 years ( "Historical/Cultural Timeline."). -
JQA Elected President
John Quincy Adams was elected the sixth President of the United States. Adams Elected Henry Clay as his Secretary of State, proving that they had bargined. Andrew Jackson spoke out against this "corrupt bargin" (Unger, 238-139) -
JQA Supreme Court Decision
John Quincy Adams was involved in the United States vs Amistad Case. He argued to free the black prisioners. He won the case, Joseph Story read the decision, "There does not seem to us to be any ground for doubt that these Negreos ought to be free." (Unger, 293). -
JQA Speech
John Quincy Adams gave a speech to the House of Reoresentatives (not sure of the exact date). It was the basis of Abraham Lincoln's later speech, the emancipation proclamation. Many people supported him but of course he also recieved hate from it (Unger 302). -
JQA Death
John Quincy Adams died in the died in the House of Representatives. He really died two days later after he had been in coma, but he did die in the capitol. (Unger, 309-310). -
Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was elected the firsr republican President. His platform was that he wanted to not let slavery expand but let it continue to exist where it is, (in notes)
