Jamestown Is Formed
Jamestown was founded in 1607 and was the first permanent English settlement. They named it after their King, James l. -
The starving time
This was a period of Jamestown when, during their first winter, they went through a famine. This lead many colonist to cannibalism. -
Tobacco crop was planted
This crop was a major staple in the New colony of Jamestown and other forming colonies. It helped Jamestown get out of the starving time, because it eventually became a major export and something they could trade. -
Tobacco was sent to England
Once tobacco was sent to England, in 15 years they had exported 500,000 and in 40 years 50,000,000 pounds of tobacco. -
House of Burgesses
A government of 20 representatives was created. It consisted of land owning white men. Their main job was granting supplies and originating laws. -
First slaves brought to America
When slaves were first brought to America it was because they were going to be used on plantations, mainly being the tobacco plantations. -

Bacon's Rebellion
When Sir William Berkeley refused Nathaniel Bacon's request to have Native Americans driven out of the colony, Virginia settlers rebelled. It is known as a turning point because after this slavery increased and became worse. -

Comprehensive Slave Codes
The Virginia House of Burgesses created laws to regulate interactions between Virginians and slaves. These were formed because as plantation farming was increasing because of the tobacco crop, more slaves were used. -
Treaty of Paris
This treaty ended the French and Indian War. This treaty would end up leading to the American Revolution, because the colonies got upset because of all the money and war debt being owed and paid. -
Currency Act
This act prohibited the printing and issuing of paper money by the colonial legislature. -
Stamp Act
This act was the first direct tax on American colonies, items such as wills, newspapers, pamphlets, bills, and playing cards were all taxed. -
Declaratory Act
This act stated that parliament had complete control of the colonies in every way. -
Townshend duties
This taxed paper, paint, lead, glass, tea, ect. -
Restraining Act
This act forced colonies to exclusively trade with Great Britain. -
Boston Massacre
This could be considered a street fight, because it was a regular day until shots were fired. This massacre was a result of all the anger that was built up due to all the acts being placed on the colonists. -
Gaspee Incident
This was an act of rebellion as a group of colonist men boarded the ship and burned it. -
First Continental Congress
This was created with a structure that emphasizes equality of participants and to promote free debate. Great Britain believed this was an illegal assembly. -
