  • Jamestown

    Jamestown was found in 1607. English settlers arriving under the authority of the Virginia Company of London chartered by King James 1 established the first permanent English settlers in North America at a place they called Jamestown.
  • Arrival of slavery in Virginia

    In late August in 1619, Africans arrived in the British colony of Virginia and are then bought by the English Colonists.
  • Plymouth Colony

    The Plymouth Colony was the first English settlement in the region, which was settled by the religious separatists known as the "Pilgrims" who crossed the Atlantic Ocean on the Mayflower IN 1620.
  • Mayflower Compact

    The Mayflower Compact, document was signed on the English ship Mayflower on November 11,1620. This was prior to its landing at Plymouth, Massachusetts. It was the first framework of government written and enacted in the territory.
  • Virginia Company

    The Virginia Company was formed both to bring profits to its shareholders and to establish an English Colony in the New World. It was a joint-stock company chartered by King James 1 to establish a colony in North America.

    The Pequot War

    The Pequot War was a competition over control of trade and land. The English Puritans expanded into Pequot territory, which resulted in growing tension. The English also wanted stake in the fur and wampum trade in the region, which was already being controlled by the Dutch and the Pequot
  • Rhode Island

    Rhode Island was charted in 1644 as a royal colony. However, it was the first English colony to offer complete freedom of religion to its settlers. Due to the freedom of religion it was called the “ Sewer Colony”. Later on the colony prospered through the Atlantic Slave Trade.
  • Maryland Toleration Act

    The Maryland Toleration Act of 1649 was passed on April 21,1649. It ensured religious freedom to Christian settlers of different denominations who settled in Massachusetts.

    The KIng Phillip’s War was the Native Americans last-ditch effort to avoid recognizing English authority and stop English settlement on their Native lands.
  • Bacon’s rebellion

    Nathanial Bacon grouped together and angry mob to burn Jamestown and Indian settlements as a protest for the reason that they didn't get any protection from the government.
  • Pennsylvania and Delaware

    These two colonies were Quaker colonies that had a freedom of conscience and good relations with native Americans. Delaware was established in 1682
  • The Glorious Revolution

    The Glorious Revolution was in England it stemmed from religious and political conflicts. It was a blood-less revolution that removed King James II from England’s throne. King James II was Catholic. His religion, and his actions rooted in it, put him at odds with the non-Catholic population and others.
