  • Formation of Jamestown Colony

    Originating from the Virginia Company of London, the Jamestown colony was established by the English on May 14th, 1607. Jamestown is known as the first permanent English settlement in North America
  • Slavery in the Americas

    Slavery in the Americas all began when 20 African slaves were brought to newly established colony, Jamestown. Many consider this to be the start of slavery in America, although it is not the first occurrence of an enslaved African reaching what is now considered a part of the United States.
  • Founding of colonies [CONTINUED]

    Starting in the year of 1620, more colonies established. Within this decade many colonies such as the Plymouth, New France, Massachusetts bay, and New Netherland colonies all settled within North Americas soils.
  • Great Ponds Act

    Passed in 1641, the Great Ponds Act granted settlers the right to "Fish and fowl along the great ponds and tidal waters within the commonwealth." This act applied to Massachusetts.
  • Creation of the barometer

    In 1643 Evangelista Torricelli invents a contraption known as a barometer. A device used to measure atmospheric pressure in order to help determine how the weather would be.
  • Virginia Laws

    During September of 1667 Virginia passed laws stating that the baptism of slaves would NOT free them from bondage.
  • Bacons Rebellion

    Led by Nathaniel Bacon, what is known as "Bacons Rebellion." was a revolt composed of other farmers such as himself against Virginias Colonial government. During September of 1676 Bacon and his militia captured and burnt Jamestown.
  • Pueblo Rebellion

    In what is known as New Mexico, the Pueblo Indians revolted against Spanish Colonizers, reestablishing their own government.
  • The Glorious Rebellion

    This was a dispute between powers in 1688. During this time King James II is exiled and into his place Mary and her husband William enter.
  • Salem Witch Trials

    During the Salem Witch Trials, over 200 people were accused of being a witch, or practicing witch craft, and 20 of which were killed.
