  • Jamestown

    Jamestown
    Jamestown was the first permanent English settlement in America, it followed after the failed attempt of the Lost Colony of Roanoke. It was established by the Virginia Company of London. It was considered the capital of the Colonies from 1616 to 1699.
  • The House of Burgesses

    The House of Burgesses
    It originated in the first meeting of the Virginia General Assembly in Jamestown. The House of Burgesses was the first democratically-elected legislative body in the British American colonies. At the first meeting there were 22 burgesses representing 11 settlements, Burgesses had become elected representatives. The only ones who were allowed to vote for Burgesses were white men who owned a certain amount of property.
  • Mayflower Compact

    Mayflower Compact
    The Mayflower Compact was a set of rules that the settlers made for how they would be governed. The adult male colonist, and even two indentured servants signed it.
  • Indian Massacre

    Indian Massacre
    This massacre took place in the English Colony of Virginia. The Powhatan Confederacy had planned this surprise attack. Out of 1,250 colonists 347 of them died.
  • Massachusetts Bay Colony

    Massachusetts Bay Colony
    It was one of the fist English settlements in Massachusetts. The settlers were 1,000 Puritans who were refugees. They were under the power of Gov. John Winthrop, the colony was founded by the owners of the Massachusetts Bay Company.

    The war took place in New England, and it was the last effort by the Native Americans to avoid recognizing English authority and stop settlements on their lands.

    Bacon's Rebellion

    It was a rebellion held by the Virginian settlers and led by Nathan Bacon. It started when Bacon insisted the the governor give him the support to attack Native Americans on the colonies border. When the governor denied him that, he took things into his own hand and made his own militia.

    The Salem Witch Trials

    The Salem Witch Trials began when a group of girls in Salem Village, Massachusetts claimed that several women in the colony were practicing witchcraft because they were possessed by the devil. This caused chaos in the colony, so a special court was made to judge the cases.
