  • Virginia company

    1606 King James gave his blessing to joint-stock enterprise the Virginia company. He told the to bring Christian religion to the Indians. This company sent 104 colonists to America.
  • Jamestown established

    After five months at sea the colonists settled about 40 miles inland of Chesapeake Bay and later named it Jamestown.
  • Famine in Jamestown

    The food supply ran out again and the colonists consumed horses, cats ,dogs, snake, mice, and rats. Many of the colonists died of pure hunger. Sir Thomas Gates brought over 150 more colonists and found it in disarray. Gates imposed strict laws and the rebuilding of the colony.
  • Plymouth colony

    The Pilgrims traveled on the Mayflower to the Virginia colony. Many of these people were puritan separatists-“strangers”-because they were not part of the religious group. The men of the group made the Mayflower Compact to have civil laws within their colony.
  • Virginia Company declared bankruptcy

    In 1624, Virginia Company went bankrupt and Virginia became a royal colony controlled by government.
  • Charles l takes power

    In 1625, Charles l succeed his father -King James- and proved to be an even more powerful absolute ruler. He raised taxes, harassed puritans and disbanded parliament for over 10 years.
  • Civil war between Royalists and Parliamentarians

    Civil war between Royalists and Paramilitaries erupted because the king tried to arrest 5 members of parliament.
  • Charles convicted of high treason

    Parliamentary captured Charles and in trial convicted of high treason called him a “tyrant, traitor, murderer, and public enemy”. He was beheaded in 1649.
  • Toleration Acts

    Cecilius Calvert feared of losing his colony so wrote the toleration acts-welcomed all Christian’s.
  • Bacons Rebellion

    The rebellion was a battle between landless servants and enlarged Africans against wealthy planters and political leaders. Governor Berkeley declared him a rebel and ordered him arrested. After that the colony erupted into civil war and Jamestown was burned by Bacons man.
