Jamestown founded in 1607
Jamestown was the first permanent colony founded in the new world. They settled right by water for access to many things. -
African Slaves
Slaves were brought over to Jamestown for the first time, and slavery had begun. -
Plymouth Established
Settlers came over and named a big rock Plymouth rock, and then settled near by the rock. -
Plymouth Learns to Grow Crops
Plymouth was struggling to provide food, and so they befriended the tribe, the Wampanoags. They taught them hunt, fish, and grow good crops. -
Massachusetts Bay Founded
The puritans founded this community after they had come over from England. They wanted to build a religious community. -
Toleration Act
This law was put in place to protect peoples religious freedoms in the colony. -
King Charles I Executed
The puritans took over England and killed their leader. They claimed he had committed treason. -
First Navigation Act Passed
These laws were put in place by Great Britain to control the colonies. This is now the start of the revolution. -
Bacon's Rebellion
Bacon wanted to get Native Americans out of the colonies and the governor, Berkeley, told him no. Bacon then got a group together and set fire to Jamestown. -
Salem Witch Trials
Young girls in Massachusetts claimed that women in the colony were performing witch craft. This led to many deaths and tons of uproar in the colonies.
