    The era of reconstruction started halfway into the civil war to help the newly freed blacks. After the war this time period was used to help the 4 million freed blacks gain rights and citizenship.

    The 13th amendment abolished slavery and freed all black slaves. This is a a good and a bad thing. It is good because it freed all slaves and made slavery illegal unless as punishment. It is also a bad thing because now we have 4 million newly freed people that have no rights or money to be a citizen.

    The civil war was the start to help blacks to be freed from slavery and eventually gain rights. This was the first push to free black slaves. After the war there were three amendments added that aided the black community to gain more rights and take a step towards citizenship.

    The Ku Klux Klan was a group created after the 13th amendment that oppressed the newly freed blacks. As blacks gained more rights through time with the 14th and 15th amendment this group tried their hardest to stop the blacks from being able to vote and participate in normal day life.

    This amendment gave rights to blacks after they where freed from slavery. After the blacks were freed there were a lot of people that didn't let blacks do anything because they had no rights outlined in the bill of rights. This amendment made it so that people could not legally refuse service to blacks, even thought people did find a way around this.

    the proposal of the 15th amendment was a big thing because it was such a large jump in the right direction for black rights in america. The push for black voting rights has been a push since the 13th amendment was passed.

    The passing of the 15th amendment put into effect the right for black people to vote. This gave blacks a voice in the country and in the government.

    Poll taxes where taxes enforced at poll stations to keep blacks from voting since they had little to no money. This also pushed away anyone else that didn't have the money to vote.
  • literacy tests

    Literacy tests were tests given to primarily blacks who could not prove 5th grade education or higher. These test were required to be taken before you can vote. The questions on these tests were very open and could be interpreted many different ways. This was bad because no matter how to answer the question it could be counted wrong and you would fail the test.

    The NAACP is a huge help for the preservation and advancement of black rights. The NAACP is still around today and have formed many of the major protests throughout the past.
